12oz Can

Great to have finally found a FL brewed stout in a 12 oz can. Very solid entry. Smooth and really drinkable.

Served on-tap at the Intuition tap room.

A: Deep black with a lovely tan head that leaves a light lacing

S: I picked up chocolate, coffee, and some dried fruit like raisins

T: The flavors of chocolate, raisins, and coffee fill your palate and the beer finishes with what I would call a tinge of fruitiness from the lingering hops

M: Full-bodied, smooth and heavy

O: I loved this beer. This is probably my favorite Russian Imperial Stout that I've tried, and it makes me sad that I would have to travel from Minnesota back to Florida to try it again. I did pick up a growler of the beer after sampling in the tap room and it was equally enjoyable the second time through.

at brewery

A nearly opaque and nearly black brew, but with deep red-brown highlights showing, and revealing a clear liquid. The modest tan head leaves excellent lacing. Good medium-low carbonation.

Surprised by the rich flavor of this stout, until I saw on BA it is a Imperial. Less complex, but otherwise nearly up with world class beers of this style. Both expresso and a little smokey on the nose, but barely noticeable in tasting. No burnt notes despite a nicely dark roast flavor. Fine, lingering flavor of dark roast.

edit: now its a half pour, I do not feel this beer is as strong a they claim it is. Anyway its a rip off now at 10oz for the same price. IMHO, not to mention its a tad hoppier than it first was.

A: poured into 14 oz sniffer glass. Dark with a 1 inch head. Looks like a typical stout, supposed to be Imperial strength. No way to know.

S: very nice coffee, roasted malt flavors one expects to find in a RIS, it had a nice deep chocolate smell mixed in with the roasted and burnt coffee. Very nice not too heavy.

T: deep rich chocolate front end taste, not too bitter. Has lots of dark roasted coffee and roasted malt flavors very complex and was a nice stout. Had some alcohol in the taste! quite malty no hops detected.

m: Full body, a little oily and creamy at same time. carbonation was flat. finish was slightly bitter.

d: was decent had 2

this was from notes, will update when/IF we go back.

Just didn't do it for me. Nothing outstanding when I compare it to some of my favorite stouts. Still trying to put my finger on an aftertaste that's hung in there with me for well past the time I had my last swallow. Certainly not a bad stout by any means. LIke you all know, this is a subjective kind of thing ain't it?

Very solid roasty and semi sweet stout.

Excellent head retention on a dark black brew.

Aroma features some roast and wet malt. Flavor is packed with roast, chocolate, molasses, licorice, and dark fruit.

Very drinkable despite the high ABV.

On tap at the House of Brews, Jensen Beach.

Appearance - Pours black. Slight transparency at the edges. Arrives with a fleeting off white head which settles to just a thin collar.

Smell - Gotta be a bucket of oatmeal added to this thing. Very roasty. Dark chocolate and a bit of burnt aromas and smoke. Charcoal would be the beer snob descriptor I'm looking for.

Taste - Again, it tastes like a ton of oatmeal. More emphasis on the chocolate and coffee roasted malts. Finishes with an alcohol bite and some slightly harsh flavors. The alcohol and malt bitterness don't combine so well back there.

Mouthfeel - Thick and chewy. Medium carbonation. The finish is abrasive though.

Overall - Good stuff overall. Enjoyable and nice to see another good stout from a Florida brewery.

Poured beautifully with a thick, viscosity and a stiff foam head that clotted at the edges. Nose is filled with a lactose-sweet marshmallow, dark chocolate, roasted coffee, caramel, burnt toffee and light char.

Strong coffee char, whipped cream, caramel, dark chocolate, dry chocolate malt, light toffee and coiffed roast. This feels very thin for the amount of obvious malt but none the less this presents itself with exceptional flavor.

2016 version (8.5 ABV) poured from a 12 oz can,into a Funky Buddha snifter.

Thin khaki head that doesn't stick around for long.Black in color, with no light showing through the glass.

On the nose I get sweet malts, backed by toffee, coffee, and some dark chocolate. It has a little bit of a roasted aroma to it as well.

The palate follows the nose with sweet malts, toffee, coffee, and chocolate. The after taste is a bit smokey, with a roasted flavor.

The body is medium heavy.

This is a decent imperial stout, not my favorite though.I wouldn't buy this one again...Not because it is bad,but because there are plenty of imperial stouts I would pick first.

Very nice imperial stout, 12 oz can into a shaker pint glass. Tan head fades quickly, fine for 8.5% abv. Aroma is chocolate syrup, coffee and a little oak char. Flavor is on sweet side but balanced, with dark chocolate and big roast. I keep getting a bourbon barrel in this oak tannins and a kind of vanilla booziness. Odd because it doesn't say anything about barrel aging. Maybe it's me. Nice beer though! Love that they include all stats and ingredients on the can - including the full grain bill.
