Note: Aged a bottle 2 years before consuming
The beer pours an opaque mahogany with no head and little beige lacing. Scents of vanilla, caramel, and leather. Tastes of caramel before yielding to the characteristics of the bourbon, and finally the alcohol. The feel also changes, getting thicker and more oily the longer it lingers on the tongue. It is surprisingly smooth on the finish with the lingering burn of alcohol.
It does get sweeter as it comes up to room temperature, and the alcohol does ease up, so I recommend consuming at just slightly below room temperature. A very relaxing beer.

Bottle shared by Mike at the Barleywine tasting.
Deep copper color off white head.
I'm really liking the Scallywag. Big fruit lots of toffee and caramel with plenty of oak and bourbon character to add some layers.

Pours a dark copper color, with minimal head and lacing. Smells spot on for an English barleywine. Taste is vanilla, oak, candy, with bitterness that lingers a bit. Really nice Barleywine and glad I tried, but not sure I would buy again given the $16 price tag.

Picked a bottle up at the tasting room in San Diego on 9/20/15. Poured transparent brown, with little carbonation and a thin head that dissipated almost immediately. Smelled malty, nutty, with a hint of vanilla or toffee. The taste was similar, with a good sweetness, and a slightly bitter finish. There was an apparent alcohol note in both the taste and smell. Overall, it was a good barley wine. The price was a little high ($11/375ml), but still well worth it.
