22 oz bomber to Duvel tulip glass

I'm not a huge fan of chili beers. I love spicy peppers by themselves or in the right food, but most chili-infused brews have a disjointed flavor profile. So, I wasn't really looking forward to this, although after thinking about it, a farmhouse ale would seem to be the most appropriate style to dump off some of your garden chilies.

And although this brew won't set new standards, it kinda works. The 'flavor volume' from the chilies is right about at the same level as the yeasty esters and caramelly sweetness. Notes of cherries and oak and crackers in the nose, yielding ripe fruit and malty sweetness on the palate. The peppers don't play much of a role until the sip closes, as it does with a medium finish.

This is still not something I would clamor over or brew myself, but for what it is it's not bad.

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 4/22/2015. Pours fairly crystal clear deep golden amber color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of big lemon, pear, apple, white grape, pepper, candi sugar, cracker, biscuit, jalapeno, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/spicy yeast, jalapeno pepper, and bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big lemon, pear, apple, white grape, pepper, candi sugar, cracker, biscuit, jalapeno, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness. Good amount of peppery yeast spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of lemon, pear, apple, white grape, pepper, cracker, biscuit, jalapeno, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a short bit. Damn nice complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/spicy yeast, jalapeno pepper, and bready malt flavors; with a great malt/spiciness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Good amount of dryness from carbonation as well. Medium-high carbonation and medium body; with a very smooth, crisp, and lightly creamy/bready/prickly balanced mouthfeel that is awesome. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent saison! All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/spicy yeast, jalapeno pepper, and bready malt flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. There was very minimal pepper heat; but it had plenty of pepper flesh flavors that were balanced with a classic tasting base saison. A very enjoyable offering.

Poured from the bottle into a tulip glass.

Great rocky and bright white foaming head, with very bubbles standing at an easy creating three fingers tall. Clumpy retention, and a thick one finger puck that isn't going anywhere. Body color is a slightly opaque lemon to darker apricot yellow, almost kind of orange with just enough fine carbonation to witness through particularly in the middle. A real solid good looking Belgian like brew.

Excellent aroma. Mild pepper heat, and a sweet sense of fruity esters. Slight candi sugar a bit but real nice play on the senses and balance of hinting flavors. The peppers angle is warm, even a bit smokey but totally tolerable and just mouthwatering. Real nice work here on the nose.

Palate brings even a little more surprises and delivers nicely. First sip brings lots of lemon and a touch of sweet like sugared fruit just dusted so slightly. Mid palate fills with a very controlled warm pepper oil that is very complimentary and even soothing. Real nice bready sweetness on the finish giving to excellent fruity peach and almost tropical like qualities. Peppers are more of an accent, as the beer is not hot at all, but does contribute little bursts in places. Mouthfeel is a little flat and milky, but is supportive and lacks a bit of carbonation feel and the classic crisp and dryness is more turned down in favor of malt and estery sweetness.

A pretty neat take using peppers in a different style. This is nicely incorporated and put together, very well done.

The peppers aren't too intense. Okay beer. Well balanced beer taste with a hint of pepper in the background. Has a little bit of citrus at the end.

Attractive dark golden brew with white foam and bubbles streaming in the Ommegang chalice. Sudsy and mouthfilling. I can't place the aroma, but there is some roasted chile in the nose. Slightly tangy with a ouch of bitterness, like stems and seeds in the aftertaste.

This has a wonderful green chile flavor, but not much heat at all. The Saison pear flavor comes through nicely after the vegetable surprise. Warm and malty but not overly sweet. This is a classic Saison with a pleasant flavoring. I don't think I've had peppers in a Saison before, but if it's not overdone, it seems like a promising idea. From the 22 oz bottle purchased at Bine & Vine on Adams Ave.

Clear golden colored beer with a tall white colored head.

Smells of fruity jalapeno and of smoke. Enough pepper to tickle the nose. Faint coriander but the jalapeno really does a good job of hiding it.

Starts out mildly sweet and fruity, not hot at first. Smoky and still more fruit. Faint caramel from the piloncillo. Mild bitterness. They managed to get the jalapeno fruit and largely leave the heat behind, this is maybe heavy black pepper hot. Jalapeno leaves a green herb note to the finish.

Mouthfeel is good.

Overall a tasty offbeat beer. It is debatable if this really is more of a Chile beer than a saison.
