22oz bottle, part of a swath of expensive (thank you, Canadian dollar) new Yankee bombers recently made available in Alberta.

This beer pours a clear, dark red-brick amber colour, with an unjustifiably teeming tower of puffy, rocky, and eventually bubbly beige head, which leaves some chunky dissipating cloud lace around the glass as it very slowly sinks away.

It smells of bready, doughy caramel malt, biscuity toffee, spicy citrus and pine resin astringencies, muddled black orchard fruit notes, a twinge of wayward earthy yeast, and further leafy, weedy, and well-perfumed floral hop bitters. The taste is grainy, wet bready caramel malt, pine needles, red grapefruit and blood orange citrus rind, still unwelcome yeasty acerbities, and more leafy, piney, and floral hoppiness, all just bristling at the suggestion of an overarching booziness.

The bubbles are pretty testy in their challenging frothiness, the body a so-so medium weight, and not particularly smooth, as the alcohol and teen mob hops seem incapable of keeping their damned hands to themselves. It finishes off-dry, the various malty essences still dancing a sort of ill-informed tango with the lingering west-coast hops.

Yeah, 'Bobble Head' makes me want to tilt my noggin in the manner of the Indian sub-continent culture, where doing so indicates a suggestion of halting agreement, because the IPA quality here just doesn't quite compute, man! Everything is lacking in that regard, and my wallet will surely be vexing me for such an ill-conceived purchase, which is what I thought when first glimpsing that new array of American import hegemony. Yeah.

Pours a clear copper/red with a lovely thick off white head that fades "medium fast." Nice looking when poured.

Nose is almost a light maple honey character and quite pleasant and inviting. Undertones of cocoa.

Mouth feel is medium bold and creamy and very nice in the mouth.

Flavor profile is nice but nothing really special. Good flavors; light coffee tones and light amber tones. I don't get a whole lot of IPA character but more of a red ale character. Decent beer and nice with most types of food.

Finish is nice pine bitter; a bit dull but pleasant.

Nearly brown with a deep, dark amber for where only the brightest of lights shall pass. Appears to be clear. Lasting if modest head. Leaves streaks of lace.

I smell a bit of rust and beef steak. There's an element of burnt malt.

The taste reflects the smell. Lots of burnt malt flavors with a touch of sweetness. The finish is quite dry and bitter. There's an earthiness to the aftertaste. Full bodied with plenty of carbonation.

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 10/12/2015. Pours slightly hazy/cloudy deep ruby red/copper color with a 2 finger dense and rocky khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Nice dense soapy lacing clings around the glass. Awesome appearance. Aromas of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, apricot, mango, lemon zest, orange peel, citrus rind, light pepper, pine, caramel, brown sugar, toasted biscuit, light roast, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of juicy citrus/tropical hops and moderate dark/bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, apricot, mango, lemon zest, orange peel, citrus rind, light pepper, pine, caramel, brown sugar, toasted biscuit, light roast, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Moderate pine/citrus rind/spicy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, apricot, mango, lemon/orange peel, citrus rind, pepper, pine, caramel, brown sugar, toasted biscuit, light roast, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice complexity, robustness, and balance of juicy citrus/tropical/piney hops and moderate dark/bready malt sweetness; with a great malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light-moderate dryness from bitterness that increases through the glass. Medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth and moderately creamy/bready/sticky balanced mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent red DIPA. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of juicy citrus/tropical/piney hops and moderate dark/bready malt sweetness; and very smooth and easy to sip on for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

A - Pours a deep garnet red color, nice clarity, and a very thick and frothy off white head which is very sticky on the sides of the glass.

S - Spicy rye, citrus, pine and with a hint of sweet malt but buried far underneath the hop aroma.

T - Spicy, citrus, and pine from start to finish with a subtle sweet malt backbone that's practically buried towards the end underneath lingering tropical fruit and spicy pine that lines the mouth; eventually the aftertaste turns into a nice citrus residue. Some of the alcohol does peak its head through at times.

M - Medium body, creamy carbonation, very slight alcohol warming on the way down.

O - Glad I was able to try this when it's fresh, this is a very good red ale, nice balance - but leans more towards the hoppy side. Would by this again ... nice job Coronado!
