Notes: Here in the land of eternal sunshine, it can be difficult to differentiate between seasons. Palm tree fronds don’t change color and fall to the sand, though the mercury does drop a few degrees, it’s still as paradisiacal as Southern California lore would have you believe. So, from now on, count on this imperial pumpkin ale heralding in the fall season. Brewed with brown sugar, honey, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice and a heaping helping of would be jack-o-lanterns, Punk’In Drublic delivers autumn’s trademark flavors along with a hint of West Coast character, whether enjoyed in a pumpkin patch or on the beach.

Dark, stronger malts than many pumpkins, less alcohol in the taste for a high abv. The pumpkin flavor, the blend of spices is balanced, nothing yelling out in this one. This is run of the mill pumpkin ale with a higher abv and malt, certainly more brown sugar. Worthy.

A - Pours a deep amber orange color and a soapy white ring of lacing.

S - Aroma is a little on the subtle side (then again, my nose is a little stuffy right now ... 'jess sayin') - Pumpkin, pumpkin spice, brown sugar, nutmeg, and cinnamon.

T - Follows the nose: cinnamon, nutmeg, brown sugar and pumpkin throughout with a nice hit of pine/citrus bitterness on the tail end to scrub away any of the sugars. Bitterness lingers and one of the more bitter pumpkin beers which is nice for a change.

M - Light medium body, dry finish, coats the mouth with all spice and bitterness.

O - This is a unique pumpkin beer that's different from the rest of the pack, I'd buy this again.

Brown with a tint of amber and excellent clarity. There's a fingernail of beige resting on top. Aroma is comprised of pumpkin pie spice, nutmeg, and cinnamon. I taste an interesting barrage of pumpkin pie spice, clove, nutmeg, alcohol, and cinnamon. The mouth is aggressive spiced and warm the throat with alcohol.

22oz. Bomber

Pours a very clean/clear dark golden orange color, very nice carbonation, with a nice small creamy off-white head, which leaves some nice sticky lacing behind. The nose is malty, slight pumpkin, nutmeg, cinimmon. The taste is malty, sweet, some pumpkin, nutmeg, and some cinimmon. Medium body, with a nice bitter finish. Overall, a tasty brew.

On-tap 10/25/2015 at Natty Greene’s Tavern, in North Attleboro, MA, served in a tulip glass.

A: The beer is a deep reddish brown color, with a very thin off-white head that fades quickly and leaves a very little lace on the glass.

S: The aroma is faint but contains pumpkin, spices, caramelized malts and a touch of hops.

T: The taste starts out bready with flavors of gingerbread and a hearty malt character. Then some sweet flavors of pumpkin, spices and caramel come in. The hops presence is faint but provides a decent balance. The after-taste is slightly sweet and slightly bready.

M: Crisp and a little smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

O: A little tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, good kick, good representation of style, this is a decent beer to drink for a while if you’re in the mood for the style.

On draught at The Beer Mongers, Punk'in Dublin is one of the better pumpkin brews to my palate. The gourd is noticeable and not mask by the malt, which is strong amber base, and clean. The spices are subtle and we'll intergrated. Overall it's very clean, yet still very seasonally appropriate.
There is some sweetness and intensity of the adjuncts, but most of it is in the nose, which is like a fall potpourri. No palate fatigue over the course of the 12 oz. glass. Digestible. Well done!

S - Close to room temp, but not much smell.

T - Cloves, malt pumkin, some hops.

M - Medium body, low carb, ok balance.

D - Fun to try.

A: The beer is clear amber orange in color and has a light amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a quarter finger high beige head that quickly died down, leaving a few specks of bubbles on the surface and a thin collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Moderate aromas of pumpkin spices—ginger seems to stand out in particular—are present in the nose, along with some hints of pumpkins.
T: The taste follows the smell and has flavors of pumpkin spices (ginger and allspice) along with hints of honey and pumpkins.
M: It feels medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This pumpkin ale has more in the way of spices and honey compared to pumpkins. It's not bad if you like spicy ginger.

Pours a clear, mahogany color. 1/3 inch head of an off-white color. Good retention and decent lacing. Smells of sweet malt, slight alcohol, strong spices, hint of caramel malt, hint of hop, and slight pumpkin. Fits the style of a Pumpkin Ale. Mouth feel is sharp and clean, with an average carbonation level. There is also a slight dryness. Tastes of sweet malt, spices, alcohol, slight caramel malt, hint of hops, hint of earthy malt, and slight pumpkin. Overall, well blended, spice is dominant in aroma and body, and quite refreshing for a high alcohol pumpkin.

A - An aggressive pour yields a clear golden amber with a couple fingers of off-white foam. Settles to a nice cap atop the beer with a few webs of lacing that all stick around for the duration of the beer.

S - Aroma is heavy on the pie spices. The 8% alcohol is somewhat phenolic upon a deep sniff, but it provides some nice heat along with the spice character; very holiday-esque. Big crystal malt. A little bit of pumpkin-flesh tannin far in the background.

T - Flavor is initially heavy on the spices, but a candy-like sweetness provides some immediate contrast. The finish is astringent; showcasing the harsher aspects of heavy spicing and a high alcohol content.

M - Medium body and slightly creamy texture. Good carbonation. A tad syrupy as it moves over the palate.

O - A perfectly serviceable pumpkin ale, and another welcome addition to California; a land once devoid of pumpkin ale options. However, this beer falls into the category of "liquid candle." I won't be revisiting this one, but well worth a try and a worthwhile participant in a pumpkin beer tasting.
