Bottled June 2014, poured November 2014

Appearance: Dark brown, definitely not black. But dark enough to block most light, satisfying to the eye. A finger of tan foam. This beer is on for the style.

Aroma: Nice mix of sweetness and roast. You can actually catch some German Chocolate Cake here, moreso than any other part of the beer. Caramelization of the coconut is evident as is some nice chocolate. A relatively big stout aroma is hidden underneath.

Taste: Hits with some astringency first which sticks around through the taste. No coconut until it warms up, and then it's just a hint. The milk stout element is not as pronounced as a roasty Imperial flavor. Bitter chocolate. If I'm going to compare this to cake, I'd say it's the burnt edge piece. Still, it's interesting enough to keep me coming back. No evident off flavors, just the adjuncts bumping into each other rather than melting together like they do in the beer's namesake.

Mouthfeel: A little like carbonated chocolate milk. A bit sticky on the finish.

Overall: I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. There is a bright sweetness throughout, but not a cloying, overpowering sweetness. I could enjoy a glass of this with dessert for sure. Better than the sum of it's parts.
