Whoa...this was strange
Poured a nice milky reddish amber with a finger full of tan head that melts to a nice lacing.
Aroma is predominately bubblegum, followed by toasted malt.
Taste is....strange....sweet fruits....bready yeasts....and a very drying hops that is unidentifiable to me, but not pleasant.
Mouthfeel is creamy with carbonation and drying.
I won't finish this bomber so I can't rate very well on drinkability.

524th review on BA
Draft to plastic cup
@ Hilton Mission Valley SD

App- A lighter reddish brown with a two finger puffy head. Great cling even in a plastic cup.

Smell- Smells like a bigger American Adjunct. Not too fresh missing the hops & malts.

Taste- Very malty in taste but didnt have any carry from the aromatics. It was soft and almost spicy but still carried a bit too much adjunct for me.

Mouth- Medium bodied and medium carbonated. Left a bit of the malt flavor.

Drink- Damn, I have had high hopes for coronado. So far have been a bit let down. Won't come back to this one.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a Sam Adams perfect pint.

Pours a brown color with red tinges and a finger of head. Everything about this beer is uninspiring. The aroma is weak, with caramel malts and some citrus dominating. The taste has just a little bit of hoppiness and citrus, followed by alotta malt. The mouthfeel is thin, and the drinkability is alright. This is basically the harbringer of the average beer. There's nothing that stands out at all here.

A: Looks like rootbeer with tomato juice added to it. Some bubble activity occurring at the bottom of the glass. Head is an inch tall, khaki color made up of medium sized bubbles.

S: Caramel, fresh dough, cantelope, red fruits and some soapiness. As it warms, a cooked vegetable aroma really takes shape.

T: Tastes a lot like it smells. Begins like raw dough with caramel swirled through it that just happened to have gotten spiked by some stray soap. What a bummer too, because soapy tastes in beer sucks. Moves towards a stewed veggie type thing reminiscent of carrots, yams and spinach. Finishes with raw almonds, more veggie malts and cloying cider like qualities around the sides of the tongue.

M: Medium body with a full mouthfeel…just a bit fuzzy.

D: This cooked vegetable aroma/taste is killing me. I’m going to finish this beer but its under duress.

Had on tap at the Fish Market in San Diego.

A: Pours a medium red amber with a medium off-white head, minimal lacing.

S: Nothing overpowering here. Some malt and sweetness from the caramel.

T: Very malts, but felt like this one was missing something, The malts lacked more sweetness or hops to back them up. Almost felt a skunky taste coming from this.

M: Medium-bodied, fairly smooth, has a creaminess to it, medium carbonation.

O: Was very underwhelmed with this. Tried many great beers on my trip to San Diego, this was not one of them though.

Very inviting deep reddish copper with a fluffy light tan head. Lots of malty richness. Reminds me a little like Killian's. Very mild hops in the background. All malt, all the time. No perceptable hops. Somewhat grainy with slightly cereal notes in the finish. Dry mouthfeel, with a long, dry finish. Interesting brew. Too dry throughout for me. No hops, but no sweet malt either. No need to hunt for this one.

14th Review – from notes
On-tap into pint glass at House of Beer (Orlando, FL)

L: Dark maroon and 0.5 fingernail head.

S: Fruity and sweet with slight hint of malts. Nothing special here.

T: Over-bearing fig and plum taste somewhat balanced by slight bitterness. Not what I was expecting from this red ale; however, it was not bad either.

M: Rough up-front, yet balanced on the back-end. Quite weird, yet unpleasant at the same time.

O: As mentioned previously, not what I was expecting from this beer. Almost drank like a quad with a bit of funk – cannot say that I will seek out to return to this beer.

Bottle shared by RoyMunson. Pours a dark reddish brown in color. Smell is some hops and malt. Not too much to talk about in the taste. Just more of what was found in the nose. Nothing stands out as dominant or catching on the tongue. Decent, but nothing that draws you back in.

Clear red amber, almost a cherry tint. Plenty of foam with nice lacing in the big tulip glass. Really good sudsy mouthfeel. Aroma is mushroomy and faintly resiny.

This has that classic earthy, murky flavor that brewers seem to go for in the Red and Amber styles. Distinct bitterness explodes on the tongue. Kind of a dry, cardboard aftertaste. The malt is overwhelmed by the sourish, dirty hop flavors.

Not a brew that inspires drinkability. Lovely to look at and a nice mouthful, but it's such a waste of malted barley. From the 22 oz bottle.

Appearance: Odd color for a beer. Light amber, almost purple. Some particulates, but overall it's quite clear. There is a thick layer of sediment at the bottom of the bottle. Thick tan head, awesome lacing. Impressive retention.

Aroma: Grapes, tomato, lighter malts, mostly pale with some caramel malt. A bit roasty, must be a bit of dark malts as well.

Flavor: Pale and caramel malt. Almost tomato-like aftertaste. Some mild hops, but a strong vegetable taste. A little astringent, and some DMS.

Mouthfeel: Medium body, on the dry side.

Overall Impression:
Kinda regret getting the 22 oz bottle. I got excited when I red the label and it mentioned roasted malts, rich chocolate, caramel and spice. I didn't detect much of this, perhaps it wasn't fresh? The worst part of this was is the aftertaste. It's rough due to the DMS. It's strangely easy to drink, as long as you don't take a long time in between sips. Not the way I want to enjoy a beer though.

Presentation: 22 ounce standard “Bomber” that attracted my attention without even moving in the Cooler. A very colorful plastic like label has the requisite red-haired beauty politely holding a large glass of frothing ale in front of what should be her naked breasts. Labeled as Coronado Mermaid’s Red Premium Ale. No freshness or strength listed.

Appearance: A reddish brown body easily supports a very light tan frothy head which soon settles down to a creamy thin collar affair.

Nose: Sweet freshly baked Scones and some dark biscuit traits with a caramel hint hiding in the background.

Taste: Faded hoppiness, like an old tired Pale Ale with a hint of caramel sweetness. Feels a tad unbalanced and “knackered” at times. Awkward and not quite Red in feel, taste or complexion.

Mouthfeel: Above average feel, mainly from the Caramel I imagine. Decent carbonation though lends some vitality to the tired tastes.

Drinkability: I dispatched the 650ml reasonable easy, but this is far from drinkable. As a ‘one-off’, it was more of the investigative tasting adventure that precipitated the completion of this one. A second bottle would have been harder to finish for sure.

Overall: Not one I would try again – was this an tired old sample I had, without any date on the bottle I cannot even give Coronado the benefit of the doubt and mark accordingly. Rather boring and tired to be honest.

Appearance: Nice lighter brick brown/red color with a thin lacing.

Smell: Sweet, wet malts. Some spice and dough scent come through.

Taste & Mouthfeel: Nice dry hops at first, then turns spicy with some chewy malt. Medium in body with a certain grittiness that you find in red ales. The aftertaste has a warmness to it and a spiciness too.

Drinkability: Was a little underwhelmed with this particular beer, especially after having the Idiot IPA. Still, it's a very serviceable red ale...just probably wouldn't drink too many of them or revisit it as much as some others.

Pours a nice crystal-clear red/amber with tall white head that dissipates quickly. Carbonation is fairly low.

Nose doesn't show much, with only a hint of malt sweetness--if you really want to find it.

Medium mouthfeel that begins with malt and finishes with a clean hop bitterness. Finish is rather short.

Overall a decent beer--nothing special, nothing glaringly wrong. Would recommend to anyone looking for something more than a lager for a session beer.

Pours a nice red/amber color with a thin white head. Ok lacing.

Not much aroma. Smells like a red though.

Taste is ok. Just kinda malty and a bit hoppy. Not much goin on.

Mouthfeel is good. Good carb.

Overall an ok beer. Probably won't buy it again

Presented in a 22oz bomber with an attractive label but no freshness date. Appearance was a clear ruby red with a modest frothy off-white head that dwindled down to a broken skim and thin collar in a matter of seconds.
The nose was somewhat fruity and had some nuttiness intermixed with an earthy malt aroma that had my thinking of black farm soil. Hops aroma noticeably subdued, more so than expected. Slightly phenolic note present also.
A few tastes and I'm still waiting for something to really assert itself. It's got a raisiny flavor up front which is quickly supplanted by a grainy, caramel-tinged malt and nut flavoring. Then the dirt taste rears up. Finished with a modest hops bitterness. A bit of a medicinal bite slapped my tongue as this brew warmed up a bit. The feel was medium-bodied, smooth and a bit slick.
Overall, this brew didn't possess any kind of inspiration or panache for this style. Drinkability suffered from the medicinal notes in the nose and taste. Nothing I'd get too excited to see again.

Appearance – This is a dark brownish-red in color with a moderate off-white head. It’s thick and murky but the reddish highlights show daylight.

Smell – There’s a mild but pleasant hop nose to this one. It’s a strong citrus with maybe a hint of grain.

Taste – The hops come over well at the taste and the grain isn’t bad, but there’s a strong Spree-like spanking of sugar that seems out of place . . . in any beer.

Mouthfeel – This is a solid medium-bodied with some pretty-good carbonation and some residual bitterness from the hops.

Drinkability – Some of the flavors like the hop and grain are OK but others like that rank sweetness is just awful.

Tap. Pours brownish-red with a short off-white head. Nutty and caramel aroma, strangely, without a lot of hops. More of the same in the taste with biscuits, metal and a bitter cascade finish. Lots of caramel. Kind of a malt-bomb for a red. Expected more resin/grapefruit for a SoCal red, but maybe that's just their style.

On tap at the CBC. Aroma is hops and a sweet maltiness. Hazy red color. Mouthfeel was a bit thin. Taste is caramel flavors with a nice hoppy finish. This one wasn't bad - if the mouthfeel was stepped up just a little bit I would have enjoyed it a lot more.

It definitely tastes more like an ipa rather than an amber ale, which took me by surprise. If you are a fan of amber ales and malts, you would probably do no harm by skipping this one. If you are an ipa fan, feel free to give this one a whirl.

On tap at the brewpub. Deep ruddy brown color with a tan head. No lacing, okay retention. Aroma is sweet citrus with some caramel. Flavor is caramel and crystal malts with some sweet orangey hops. Another boring red ale. Medium body, too sweet. Yawn.

Had on tap at the Galaxy Hut in Arlington, VA.

a - Pours an amber red color with 1 inch of off white head and no carbonation.

s - Smell is faded grain or bready malts; it is almost non existent.

t - Tastes of light hops and bready malts.

m - Medium body and no carbonation, very smooth and easy to drink.

d - An ok red ale. Very easy to drink but not much in the smell or taste. Wouldn't look to have again.

I'm liking the fact that if you bring in the label off the bottle to the restaraunt you get 10% off. Nice little marketing swing. Forms a large rocky, sticky tan head. Dark brown with some reddish hue.

Had the smell of a fresh batch of malted grain. Caramel.

Toasted malt taste comes through more in the flavor than I was expecting. This is pretty heavy, doughy, malted with out much of a balancer, although the carbonation is powerful and needed. A light fruity presence if I dig deep, not much of a factor but pleasantly in the background.

I enjoyed it but it was just OK for me. This has some serious potential to be a great red, A tweek here and tweek there and it will be a star.

This was a good beer!

Pours a nice red amber color, closer to the red...
Fluffy tan head, with adequate lacing. The taste is smooth and well balanced, notes of subtle chocolate, caramel sweetness lingers in the finish. There is a malty feel to this brew, but not a grainy feel.

I will have this one again, and again. This is a good representation of a Red Ale.

Attractive red appearance, good clarity, 1/2" off white head. Aroma did the lesser than average toast/roast of the red malts, but still dropped a relative amount of hop aroma.

Taste though reverted back to average land for style. Red malts, peat, moss, earth, cocoa. Not putting itself near the awesome hoppy 1st tier red ales out there.
