This is a beer that I have been wanting to try for years. And amazingly this dead stock has been sitting on the shelf of the beer store for all along, even made me wonder if it's okay because the date must definitely be off. But as it was a one-time off-shot, I had to try no matter what.
Having read the story on the bottle made me feel good, understanding what the 10 degrees of latitude meant. And then here we are, left with an English Ale made with molasses - in the US. Now what immediately came to my mind is that is is VERY similar to Golden Pride by Fullers! And if you know that, you know it's world class!
While Fullers is extra smooth and boozy (an unbeatable combo), this is much lighter at 5.5 ABV and maybe a bit more roughness in the mouthfeel - but Golden Pride is Golden Pride, and this is what this is. Molasses is very intensive, sweet like rum of course.
I love this one, although after knowing the above-mentioned this can only finish second place. But still: it is a historical collab, get it while you can - or if not, get a bottle of Golden Pride, it's worth it!

I ordered it without knowing what it was, it was obviously a brown ale, so it's true to taste! Not bad. Rich, coppery, and Carmelly.

More Amber than brown in color. Nice molasses aroma. Taste is sweet molasses and some coffee with hops in the background. Mild bitter aftertaste. Very pleasant beer.

Pours a clear amber brown with a thin off white head. Smell is of biscuit malt, syrup, molasses, toffee, a bit of coffee, nuts, and some small earthy citrus hop notes. Taste is sweet biscuit malt, molasses on the back end, toffee, citrus, and just a tiny bit of caramel. Has a nice moderate mouth feel with a good amount of smooth but crisp carbonation. Easy drinking yet complex.

Short Review. I got to try both brewery's version of this beer and I thought they were pretty similar. but in the end I preferred Coronado's version, it had just a little more of a robust flavor with an extra bit of nutiness and it had a better mouthfeel. I liked it and I thought it was a true example of the style.

22 ounce bottle into pine glass, bottled on 3/26/2015. Pours fairly crystal clear light reddish brown color with a 1-2 finger dense off white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of chocolate, cocoa, caramel, toast, brown sugar, brown bread, light nuttiness, light dark fruit, herbal, grass, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malt, earthy hop, and light fruity yeast notes; with solid strength. Taste of chocolate, cocoa, caramel, toast, brown sugar, brown bread, light nuttiness, light dark fruit, herbal, grass, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Light-moderate herbal/roasted bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of chocolate, cocoa, caramel, toast, brown sugar, brown bread, light nuttiness, light dark fruit, herbal, grass, and yeast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice robustness, balance, and complexity of dark/roast/bready malt, earthy hops, and light fruity yeast notes; with a good bitterness/sweetness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, fairly crisp, and lightly creamy/bready/chalky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very good English brown ale style. All around good complexity, balance, and robustness of dark/roast/bready malt, earthy hops, and light fruity yeast flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A nicely enjoyable offering.
