Pours into a small tulip glass a honey color with a very well formed sticky white head atop.Orange peel and sweet alcohol stands out in the nose for me,maybe a bit of soap?No sharp hoppy bitterness or cloying sweetness on the palate, orange and tangerine flavors along with biscuity malts and just a tinge of sugary sweetness in the finish,to me the alcohol is pretty well hidden for the style.Would have like more bitterness and sharpness but I love the fact that the sweetness is kept in check pretty well.

August 31st, 2015 - Cheers to a happy 19th Anniversary to Coronado. I understand there's been some corporate purchasing or suits mucking with Coronado. I don't pay much attention to that, but this dummy thick looking 19th Anniversary IPA definitely has my attention. The scent is actually somewhat mild with a low-key hop profile. The flavor, too, is more subdued and a little rust. The body is vigorous though, and gives this a very Continental/European feel. Odd to have in San Diego, but I always like this more direct bitterness.

Bottled summer 2015; drank 9/5/15 @ the Yarchives.
See-through orange appearance.
A rough pour yielded a HUGE eggshell head; frothy lace.
Pine & mango notes in the nose.
Medium thick mouthfeel.
Pine & caramel flavors up front; sweet mango & dry booze heat notes on the finish. Cloying & bitter; a bad combination. This will be my last.

Poured from a 22-ounce bottle labeled Imperial IPA on the front and DIPA on the back, a clear orange under a 1" thick white head which leaves semi-rings and splotches of lace. Aroma is dank, orange/grapefruit, tropical fruits, herbal and floral. Flavor is malty, resiny and sticky. Semi-full body and moderate carbonation. Bready, bitter hop finish. Old (6 month) bottle. Would have liked to try this one a bit fresher.

Amber orange color with a thick off-white head with good retention and leaving some laces.
Aroma with notes of caramel, pine, tangerine, candy, garlic powder and lots of blueberry. A bit muffled, but this is not that fresh.
Although the nose indicated this was going to be a sweet DIPA, fortunately the mouth delivered something different. Hoppy flavor with notes of oranges, grapefruit, lychees, spices, soy sauce drops, mango, cooked onion and perfume. Finishes quite piney and lemony with tea leaves. Dry aftertaste with a long lasting bitterness.
Medium towards full body with appropriate carbonation. Alcohol of 9% is well disguised.
The diverse combination of hops resulted in a mosaic of flavors (maybe the homonymous one showing up a bit more), though a bit confusing: tropical fruits, onion, flowers, citrus, soy, candy... That said this is a good DIPA that got my curiosity and resulted rather unique.

Beer Summit sample pour. From bottle. Caramel color. An old school bruiser of a West Coast IPA. Huge caramel, citrus, and perfumey floral hops. The flavor is rich from its excessive malt. The hops are strong and floral. It has a marzipan flavor from the malt. Hot and very bitter. Takes me back to the days when I used to love beers like this. Now they are getting to be too much for me!

12 oz bottle.
A: Clear pale amber. 2 fingers high of head.
S: Fermented notes of soy sauce, a sign old IPA. Pine. Some lemon.
T: Pine. Orange. Hints of toasted nuts. Medium high bitterness. A touch of sweetness. Dry, bitter, and long finish.
M: Moderate body. Crisp carbonation.
O: This is the worst IPA from Coronado I had. (1 out of 3) The previous samples were rather fantastic. Though I think I might drink it too late.
