Very Good
Notes: Coronado Brewed & Bottled version. A Rye IPA collaboration with Bear Republic. The pungent and layered blend of Ella, El Dorado, Equinox, and Azacca dry hops coupled with a whirlpool addition of Buddha’s Hand creates an aromatic explosion, ending with a spicy malt caramel backbone.

I'm a sucker for rye beers, but I didn't really pick up much rye in this one. I was drinking multiple beers on a flight at a brewpub, so perhaps I need to try this again.

Picked up a bomber from TW Arrowhead in early April for $7.49. Received at TW 3-22-16, no bottling date. Refrigerated since purchase.

Beer poured amber with a nice white head that is leaving lacing.

Nose has faint hints of citrus.

Taste initially was caramel malt forward with a hint of citrus with a rye spice accent. Subsequent sips bring a vegetal finish on the back of the palate. Some sips are pretty good but then other sips give that vegy finish.

Feel is pretty good, somewhat lively and smooth.

Overall definitely not a great beer given my reaction to the hop combo.

Poured half of the 22 oz bottle into a pint glass.

L: Very thin layer of foam. Deep reddish-copper color.

S: Not much of a smell to this one. Distant scent of earthy hops.

T: Taste is very pleasant. Very nice balance to malt and hops. Certainly not an overpowering hoppy ale. But can't really detect much of a rye presence.

F: Feel is very smooth and very drinkable for such a high gravity.

O: This is a well-crafted beer, but based on the price ($13!), I probably would not buy again.

Thanks to rawfish for this bomber (& its kissing cousin, which will meet its maker shortly as well) as an extra in a recent, beautiful trade. 22 oz. bomber split with my wife.

The pour is the color of Oswaldo Arcia’s hair with a spritz of AAA mousse on top (or half a bottle, more likely). The nose barely moves the Richter scale; maybe a 1.2. Scant malt sweetness & a few grains of damp farmland earth. Almost imperceptible.

MerBear (Coronado Style) is a malt-driven IPA, which is right up there with a wookie Stormtrooper, a great 21 Pilots song, a bass that’s just too big. Way too sweet, this is driven by a six-speed transmission of caramel malt. The rye is viewable, with muted spices & more of the damp earth. A bit thick & a full pour is plenty for me to get all judgmental on this one.

If you went into a bar near the brewery & said “Give me a beer” you might get this. Just beer - no more, no less. Completely mediocre.

A really nice looking pour into an imperial nonic,a rich deep bronze with a half finger lighter khaki colored head atop, very rich looking.Floral and citric hops mixed with a quite hefty caramel malt presence in the nose,to me like a hoppy looks like that as well.Quite earthy upfront and lightly spicy on the palate with lighter citric notes as well melding into a caramel and brown sugar-like sweetness in the back end.Wow to me this is an amped up hoppy red with it's caramel and brown sugar malt flavors not to mention the earthy hops. It's not bad not bad at all just maybe in a wrong category of beer?

Dark brownish amber color with a sudsy mouthfeel. Beery, fruity aroma. Dark roasted malt with a . Moderately bitter. Pleasantly spritzy on the tongue. A little flabby somehow. I wouldn't call it an IPA.

This has an odd fruity taste-- jujube? It doesn't particularly taste like rye, so perhaps that's why it's not categorized as a Rye Beer. Still, there's a spicy note. From the 22 oz bottle purchased at Bottlecraft.

Clear copper with a thin off-white head that left a curtain of lacing.
Toasted earthy citrus on the nose and palate.
Well carbonated slightly crisp mouthfeel. A little more rye note comes through as it warms.
Could have used more of that rye note, but tasty nonetheless.
