Very Good
Guava IslanderGuava Islander
Notes: Tropical fruit meets tropical vibes in this “guavacated” version of our Islander IPA. Brewed with the classic West Coast combo of Centennial, Chinook and Columbus hops, this beer gets the tropical treatment with a hefty dose of fresh guava puree. The result is a surprisingly smooth, unfiltered IPA bursting with tropical goodness that’s sure to put you in that island state of mind.

Can poured into a Spiegelau IPA glass

A: Pours golden amber with a kinda creamy off white that settles to a firm layer and laces nicely.

S: Tropical, candied fruit, citrus, pine, and a touch of spice, biscuity malt, and caramel honey sweetness.

T: Tropical fruit, guava, papaya, and a little mango, resinous pine, citrus, grapefruit, lemon lime, a little spice, biscuity malt, and caramel/honey sweetness.

M: Medium body, moderate carbonation.

O: Maybe a little milder bitterness or a touch more sweetness to make the guava pop would be nice, but it's still solid.

Poured on 3/31/17 from a can with canning date of 1/26/17.

L: A darkish golden orange, moderately clear. A good amount of off-white/light tan head.

S: Tropical fruit (guava, papaya, orange) and pine.

T: Tropical fruits strongest at the beginning of the sip, then fades away into piney and floral hops with some maltiness near the end of the sip as well. Given the smell, I was a little disappointed with the taste. The tropical fruit is not near as strong and the flavors are a bit different—I can’t really detect the guava like I could in the smell. But all in all, not a bad flavor.

F: Smooth, with only a bit of bitterness. Medium-full bodied--seemed a bit too heavy for an IPA. Carbonation is moderately light.

O: A decent, tropical IPA. But there are other similar IPAs I would prefer so don’t see myself getting this ever again.

A: cloudy orange to almost pink. Thin opaque small bubbles.

S: of course lots of guava juice due to the purée there's hops very little resin overrun with guava and citrus juice

T: definitely has the guava upfront citrus piss some resin in the middle to kind of balance out the fruit subtle pine on the finish rounds back out to more of that guava purée almost a mango Peel is well

F: has pretty good body to it not to worry of course again the purée house in this aspect crisp nice finish leaves a flavor of lava at the aftertaste

O: this is quite good I enjoy it but without the addition of the guava it would be a pretty decent IPA so there's quite a bit adding to it to make it better that it probably is but still very enjoyable

Has a slightly hazy golden/orange appearance with a thick two fingers of off white head made up of large bubbles that leaves a nice lacing down the glass.

I pick up a smell of tropical fruit notes along wih just a hint of that hop dankness coming out.

The taste is prevalent with guava and does contain a slight hop bitterness.

The mouth is clean and light and finishes dry.

As it warmed I did detect a bit of the 7% ABV in the back of the throat. However this is a very nicely done beer and a person could drink several of these down without noticing that 7%. My first beer from this brewery and I am quite happy with it.

Pours an effervescent gold with a pinky of eggshell colored head. Average lacing & slightly better head retention

S: A little guava & mango, then pine late

T: Follows the nose, slight citrus notes as well along with bready dryness & a touch of pine up front. Dryness, pomelo, a little guava, a little grassyness once warm. Finishes dry with pomelo & more guava

MF: Medium body body, dialed back carbonation that does pick once warm, alright balance

Drinks alright, just nothing really stands out about this

Poured from 12oz can into Spiegelau IPA glass. Canned on June 16th, 2017.

L: Clear gold, big three finger off-white head.

S: Some guava for sure but mostly other citrus notes and a faint resiny pine.

T: Again lots of citrus with some of it being Guava, and a faint pine backnote with floral hints as well.

F: Light, crisp, semi-dry.

O: Pretty solid IPA.

canned 8/28/17 consumed 10/18/17 in shaker pint glass.

Slightly hazed golden/yellow body under a rocky fine white 1 finger of head. Pretty subdued guava on the nose, underwhelming tropical hop notes and a slight presence of biscuity malts. Flavor is a somewhat stronger presence of the aroma. guava puree and medium bitter, and pineapple-y hops with a subtle malt backbone. Mouthfeel is dry and clean. Medium to light bodid IPA, impressive for 7% abv.
