Bottled 2/4/15; drank 3/9/15 @ the Yarchives.
Semi-opaque light orange appearance; white flotsam.
Big eggshell head; frothy lace.
Grapefruit, caramel & pine needle notes in the nose.
Medium mouthfeel.
Pine needle & caramel flavors up front; a grapefruit bite on the finish. As this warmed, a nice peanut butter (!) note emerged.
Not normally my flavor profile, but this was interesting & tasty. I'd have another.

Pours a pale, murky golden orange, with probable 'junk in the trunk' at a glance, rather few carb bubbles, drifting slow.
Thin head of fine bubbles. Lacing present.
Sour malt scent. Lemon Aura.
Taste follows the nose, crisp and sour malt, with a citrus hint; loaf of lime, with half a hint of grapefruit-pine. Bold booze.
If finesse is you aim, move on. For an 8.5% this is super easy drinking.

First imperial IPA I ever had and over whelmed. This a "the bar" for imperial IPAs when first i was first exploring IPAs. Seek this Beer for I think is a good starting gold standard to compare imperial IPAs. Coronado is another brewery that everything they make is worth a try. like Ballast Point, Deschutes just to name just two.

650ml bottle poured into Sam Adams pint glass.
Pours a slightly hazy golden amber with one fat finger of beige head that leaves cloudy summer sky lace as it recedes. Pretty.
Smells of rich sweet bread, sliced orange and lime, pineapple, soft caramel and dank piney hops.
Tastes of orange and lime rind, pineapple chunks, bready caramel malt, pine resin and alcohol.
Feels thick and soft. Full bodied with furry carbonation. Finishes dry and a little harsh.
Verdict: Recommended. Not very elegant, but pretty tasty.

Sitting at the 8.5%, I opted for my tulip.
The appearance was a semi-dark golden bronzed orange color about it with a stiff finger's worth of white foamy head that slid off at a moderate pace. Sly roaming lace.
The aroma had a gentle blend of citrus pith, fresh pine, light alcohol and a subtle fresh biting grassy sweetness.
The flavor started bitter and became sweet but then went back to the bitterness. Malts are quite low here. I was hoping this would have eventually combined to become fully bittersweet but to no avail. Fairly nice aftertaste of the citrus, pine and low riding biscuits.
The mouthfeel was about medium bodied with a fair sessionability about it. Carbonation felt appropriate. ABV hit just as expected. Slight astringency, but acceptable to me.
Overall, pretty good DIPA that I could have again.
ine, light alcohol, mild bitterness for the style. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is a decent beer, but the flavors seem to clash rather than flow together.
