650ml bottle poured into Sam Adams pint glass.

Pours a slightly hazy golden amber with one fat finger of beige head that leaves cloudy summer sky lace as it recedes. Pretty.

Smells of rich sweet bread, sliced orange and lime, pineapple, soft caramel and dank piney hops.

Tastes of orange and lime rind, pineapple chunks, bready caramel malt, pine resin and alcohol.

Feels thick and soft. Full bodied with furry carbonation. Finishes dry and a little harsh.

Verdict: Recommended. Not very elegant, but pretty tasty.

Ver solid IPA from a brewery that is horribly unrepresented in the state of north carolina... What are you doing CORONADO no one knows about you here.

Pours 1 finger of creamy beige head. Good retention. Leaves very nice lace walls. Color is a hazed golden copper. I got some floaties in my glass.

Aroma: I has a decent amount of caramel and bready malts. Has some bittering floral hops. Some pineapple and grassy hops.

Taste: A bit malty, but it has the hop bite. Floral and grassy hops. Some pineapple again with a bit of sweetness.

Mouthfeel: Creamy and bitter. Medium bodied with a medium amount of carbonation. Ends sticky and dry.

Overall, this one was a bit too malty for me. It was alright, but not something I want a lot of.

A: Hazy golden orange/light copper. Tight bubbles, leaves a far amounts of sticky lacing.

S: Pine, grapefruit, light floral notes, Nice bit of carmel comes through.

T: Very nice floral hops with good grapefruitiness and a bit of orange. Nice sweetness in the middle and get bitterness.

M: Nice hoppy resin left. Slighly boozy but I think it was well balanced so not too noticable. Medium bodied.

O: Happy to try new things when I was in San Diego, Nice big bold hops with nice sweetness.

12 oz. bottle, no freshness date, but being within 100 miles of the brewery helps, no problem here,

A: Pours goldenrod with a medium white head, good head retention, some lace.

S: Some tropicality, grass, grapefruit, hop dominated if not particularly robust.

T: Mix of white and pink grapefruit, lemon and tangerine, very citrusy, with a dry grassy finish. Malt is nonexistent basically which is fine since the hop flavours are delicious.

M: Medium to full-bodied, feels fairly viscous on the tongue as compared to most in this style, oily, good aftertaste.

D: A very good San Diego IPA that can hold its own with the rest of the county. Very glad I got to try this. Something I think would be amazing on-tap, fresh at the source.

Heavy on the bitter side as you would expect with an imperial IPA but the balance seems a bit off. Overall a good taste. Average aroma.

16 oz pint at the Coronado Brewery/Restaurant

I was very pleased that they had this on tap that night, being that I'm a huge IPA fan, and that they seemed to be out of about 5 beers that night. Very strong hoppy aroma, but they taste wasn't to strong, surprising though with such a high abv. It so disappointing though that evening living in San Diego I rarely find this beer in stores, but I guess that just makes me treasure when I do find it...

Had this on-tap, then found this bottle immediately after

A: Pours a viscous looking hop-hazy copper color with a big eggshell color head. Retention is awesome, leaving thick sheets of foam along the glass.

S: Ahh...better than I remember. Lots of mango right off the bat, along with candied pineapple, overripe peach, and pears. Real fruity. Floral hops and bittering hops give off lots of pine and earthy aromas. Malts give off some caramel and honey?, striking a nice balance of bitter and sweet. Alcohol slightly pokes through.

T: Eh, I wish this was more like the nose. Right away you are immediately greeted with overwhelming bitterness that is completely unchecked...There must be 90-100 IBUs in this. Oh well, besides the bitterness, you get lots of tart grapefruit and lots of honey. Alcohol is apparent, but not really overwhelming. Lots of resinous hops create that sticky feeling. Tastes like the smell of good pot.

MF/D: Really viscous for the style, one of the biggest. Carbonation is just right for the style. Sticky mouthfeel.

Notes: Much prefer this on tap when the bitterness is a little less intense. Great beer though, definitely worth another purchase.
