22oz bomber, no date. After just having an islander IPA I am not seeing a big difference. Small veriations in nose and malt. Both have that rust finish.

From 32GP. In Teku glass. After dinner. BBF this month. Still pretty good. To repeat fresher. Tropical fruits with a remarkably bitter dry finish. Very resinous

Looks Awesome. Two tone orange body with a lighter, clearer bottom and a solid cream head atop the darker haze. Nose is strong with hops and booze. I'm smelling a hop bomb.

Yeah, malt has left the building, folks. Heavy citrus rind and pine resin and think, syrupy booooooze. Thick mouthfeel has its work cut out for it but does admirably. This goes down smoother than my description would indicate. In quantities these would destroy but I enjoyed drinking this one.

THis was the beer that kept on giving.
It looked great in the glass (orangish, with a tight thick white foam head).
The smell of the 4 types of hops was there on the nose.
The flavor was not as bitter, and a fair bit sweeter than I expected. Yet it didn't lose the hoppy flavors from the boil.
A wonderful balancing act.
It drank down too quickly, is my only "complaint". Yum!

A darker and heartier yellow appearance. Aroma hit some mango and grapefruit notes, then a little bit of pineapple.

Taste was one with alcohol up front, finally began to hit that chill tip and then a wave of bitterness keeps the forcible entry thing going with the mouth.

Its nice you don't have to get these in a bomber anymore. With so many great ipas in San Diego, this one just doesn't have a place to be a recurring character in my play. But its good.

Pours fine with very little head. Amber and translucent color which is nicely opaque and therefore you can't look through it. No carb and no sentiment visible. Aroma is clean, clear, citrus. It smells a bit "bitter" too.

Taste is spoiled sharp citrus and a hint of bitter. Mango and other ripe citrus comes in then into a dry finish, with the feel of booziness without actually feeling alcoholic. Does that make sense? Hoppy veggie sensation throughout, slight bitter sour taste (onion?) throughout which makes this less than a go-to IPA but generally, an unoffensive clean feel which makes it easy to finish but not so easy to remember. Mouthful is unremarkable.

Nothing makes this go south, but nothing world-class for me. Various nuances are mixed up without transcending the style. At the right price, sure, go for it.

Hazy gold hue, finger off-white head. Nice and clean smelling. Earthy, resiny and fruity. Pineapple, orange zest, lemon peel, light guava and vanilla, pine resin. A nice touch of malt balances this one very nicely. A little bit earthy but the quartet of hops sing proudly in this one. Extremely clean and smooth finish with the bitterness not being overbearing. Overall, not a very complex IPA but that's the whole point of this brew. An excellent straightforward take on the West Coast IPA style.

Drinking a 12oz into a snifter, I get dried orange rind and resin aromas with a bit of spice. Rich and clear amber color with a one finger head. Spicy citrus and resin in the flavor with very subtle sweetness coming through. Zero lacing on the glass and leaves a tingling sensation on your tongue.

I could not rate the appearance, bought this at a Whole Food in Maui and drank it in the B & B with no glass available. However, this is close to an outstanding DIPA. The aroma did it for me, very funky in good way. Tasted excellent, finished smoothly.

One of the better beers I have ever had. Full disclosure, I love west coast IPAs that kick you in the teeth, and this big boy delivers. Hoppy throughout, definitely a little dirt/earth in the flavor profile.

I had it for the first time at the brewpub in Coronado and fell in love, and now my favorite spot in hawaii carries it on tap. Glorious.

Clear golden color with off-white head. Aroma is classic west coast style hop profile. Earthy, resiny hops with some biscuit malts. Taste follows, strong flavor, malty but also with a lot of earthy hops. Bitterness is stronger on the finish and aftertaste. Body is medium with quite low carbonation. Overall this is a decent DIPA, the only complaint is the slightly overpowering alcohol presence.

On tap at a local steak/chicken restaurant. Very smooth IPA, nice balance between hops, malt and citrus. Did not strike me as a double IPA but still very tasty.

My main impression was dank and acrid with some alcohol bite. There's lots of prickly hops on the nose, strong bitterness in the flavor (with enough malt and alcohol to give it body) and a bitter (but not very floral) finish. The earthy flavor hops and citrus elements compete rather than coalescing into a coherent impression. This is perhaps a cheap shot, but my sense of the hopping process is an idiot randomly throwing in any variety available to achieve maximum bitterness. If you're looking for an indiscriminate hop blitz, this might be your thing.

Big fluffy head atop a slightly hazy orange body; excellent retention and nice lacing.

Aroma hints at citrus, resin, and dank notes. Flavor follows, carrying along plenty of caramel malt.

Medium bodied, lively, and very smooth.

Pours bright amber with a very nice white foam head, almost no retention. Smell is very complex and rich, strong hop aroma and some vanilla notes. Taste is bitter, balanced and alcoholic. Medium body with low carbonation. Overall very good IIPA.

This was a surprise and if it weren't for the price, I would have bought it to try much sooner because the name is directed right to my heart these last few years. It's (the name) in the same space as Hop Stoopid at getting my attention. Nice effort.

Coronado Brewing Co. "Idiot IPA"
on tap @ the Station Taphouse, Doylestown, PA
$7 for a 10 oz. pour

Notes: Fairly clear deep brass body beneath a short head of off-white. Sweetish citrusy nose over a soft caramel and biscuity malt base. Notes of pineapple, tangerine, mango, peach, and light pine. The flavor follows suit but with a bit more edge in some sharper citrus acidity, and a bit of chalky citrus pith. It has a very nice fruity/hoppy/malty balance with citrus leaning into sweetness, and piney and grassy hop notes adding an all-around edge. Additionally, alcohol shows but it's not obtrusive and actually adds a bit to that kind of required "raspiness" - without that the malt might become a bit too "sticky" or sweetish. Beautifully tropical, and even floral, the "Idiot" satisfies.

Bottled 6/15/15 (2 1/2 Months)

Look: Poured a gorgeous hazy golden/amber with steady carbonation and a nice foamy head

Smell: Pretty unassuming. Citrus notes that are quickly overwhelmed by a caramel / lemon candy sweetness

Taste: The biggest thing here is the chocolate malt flavor. Nice citrus bitterness at the backend.

Mouthfeel: Goes down really smoothly. Bitterness lingers a while.

Bottle: Poured a light golden color ale with a nice foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of citrus notes with light sweet malt base is pretty nice. Taste is also a good mix of citrus oriented hops with light residual sugar and dry malt backbone. Body is about average with good carbonation. Nice old school IIPA with nice Cascade notes.

Picked up a six-pack of bottles at the Trig's Cellar 70 in Rhinelander. The bottling code suggests this one is good for another two months. Poured right from the fridge into my Lakefront pint glass.

L: Pours a warm honey amber with about two inches of dense off-white head that sticks around for a good bit, falls to a healthy film, and leaves considerable lacing on the glass. Relatively clear, with moderate visible carbonation.

S: Unassertive bouquet on this one--I had to strain to make out what's going on. There are caramel and cracker malt notes beneath citrus hops. Some grassy and floral notes, as well. As subtle as it is, the bouquet has a fresh quality to it.

T: Caramel and cracker malts in the front, accompanied by citrus and tropical fruit hop notes. The most prominent hop flavors are grapefruit, orange, mango, and pineapple. There's a bit of a grassy quality that emerges in the middle, along with the first sense of clear alcohol coming through. The malts stay in the picture for most of the arc of the taste. The back end brings a bit of a licorice quality that actually blends quite well with the citrus rind and malts. The close is citrus hop bitter with more of that clear alcohol poking through.

F: Medium-bodied--substantial without being syrupy. There's tartness that turns to overt bitter at the close and into the aftertaste. Some nice creaminess brought on by a good level of carbonation.

O: This is an enjoyable DIPA with nice fruit flavors and a solid malt backbone. It brings a lot of bitter but a bit more clear alcohol flavor than I would like. Overall, I'm not sure that I would return to this one again, given how many solid DIPAs are out there. But I would recommend giving this one a try for yourself.

Coronado Idiot DIPA.

Having only had one beer out of these guys that was quite good, I am certainly ready to give them another shot. And since it is a Californian DIPA, I have some pretty high hopes for this one.

Look - Pours clear copper with a tint of amber and a two finger highly frothy white head that is quite sticking. Afore assumption that the lacing shall hopefully be beautiful. Carbonation appears to be moderate, and the sediment levels are bare minimum. Retained some good, although not great lacing. 4.25.

Smell - Tropical without being sickeningly sweet. Pineapple and grapefruit juice are present in a heavy form with a moderate and very obvious backbone to even things out and let you know that you are in for one hell of a drinking experience. Fresh lemons also make a bit of an appearance as the beer warms. The tropical notes also become a bit less pronounced. 4.25.

Taste - Alright well I guess in a way it stays the same without the massive flavor explosion I was hoping for. There is a moderate amount of pineapple though it virtually completely drops the grapefruit and becomes slightly overpowered by the malty edge about 60% to 40%. 4.

Feel - Kind of disappointed in this regard. Sits light bodied only being dominated by the creaminess with almost non-existant carbonation. The flavors once again pick up and the tropical nature beats out the malts to once again create a balanced in the tropics favor. 4.

Overall - First and foremost I would like to state that this is a very easy drinking DIPA. I mean, I could surely put back a few of these without any sort of complaint. Second, and a tad disappointing is that the flavor profile is as bi-polar as your ex girlfriend. Tropical here, malty there..flat here, creamy there. While it certainly isn't perfect, it is still very solid and a sure fire party DIPA to keep in the fridge for when you're getting müde of your guests handing you Miller WaterBeer...I mean, Miller Pisswasser...I mean, Miller Lite. Or was Budweißer Licht das pisswasser? Aber...ich habe kein ahnung...und ich gibe ein schieße nicht. Yes I know, I speak Americanized German, sue me in Federal Court. 4.

Mind you, a ß is a German SS. IE " Weiß = Weiss " etc,.

Idiot IPA has been one of many beers that I have not been able to pull the trigger on, suspecting that I could kick the can of trying it down the road. With the help of my co-worker, a 22 ounce bottle is is my possession, and now I can't hold off any longer. On to the beer:

Shiny light orange color topped with an inch of head. Its body is clean, and good lacing clings around the glass. The beer features an aromatic mix resin, grapefruit peel, tangerine, and vague citrus. Perhaps it comes with little surprise that the taste of Idiot IPA follows the nose. The taste of citrus peel, tangerine, grapefruit, bitter citrus, and green tea make this a savory IPA. Swimming in a medium-full body and good bubbles, the beer carries just a wrinkle of booze to palate.

I still prefer Islander IPA, however Idiot IPA is no slouch either.

I have had this a few times in the past, and this one is on the verge of becoming an lower, upper tier IPA.

Decent look. Minimal head and lace. Lower end, semi-aromatic aroma. The taste is reaching for goodness, not bad at all. The feel is almost there.

Overall - I would have this again in the future. It has definitely changed since the last time I had it on tap at Hamilton's a few years ago.

On-tap at The Brass Tap, Greenfield, WI - poured into snifter:

Pours hazed orange amber with a wispy head that leaves some trailing lace.

The smell is of citrus with bread, some caramel.

The taste is of citrus, bread, some caramel. Earthy/peppery spicing in the finish. Some alcohol shows in the bitter finish.

A pleasantly spicy, dry, hop-forward but with plenty of malt backing, DIPA.
