Never Better is a slightly hazy DIPA, and clocking in at a color of ripe hay with light copper highlights, is paler in color than expected. Thin streams of CO2 support a cloudy white head with good retention.

Never Better smells like rich, caramel malt combined the woody, pithy, pine resin aroma of American hops. A whiff of fresh bread in the center helps cut the intensity of the hop profile temporarily. Then, the hops come round again, this time with just a hint of citrus.

On the tongue, Never Better is full bodied, smooth, and very hop forward. Never Better introduces itself as a very big and bold brew. Caramel malt lays the foundation for a huge, assertive smack of American hops. A woody sort of bitterness combines easily with the mouthcoating bitterness of grapefruit, ending with pine resin.

It's big, bold, and mouth coating in its borderline aggressive hop nature. But then again, that's why we love our double IPAs, isn't it?

Pours a hazy orangish gold with plenty of floating particulates. Huge pillow of white foam that lasts and leaves nice lacing. Aroma is mild, near non existent citrus and pine. Flavor is also mild, with the same citrus and pine, sweet with a malt backbone. Feel is medium bodied and a bit under carbonated. Overall a nice but not great beer.

I am a huge DIPA drinker. I was disappointed after seeing the overall rating. This was good but nothing special considering it had mosaic and citra hops. I did not taste any bursting flavors noted.

Very, very good! Nice amber color and a thick frothy head. ABV is not noticeable at all in taste. The caption on the can says it best ..."unfiltered, tropical, dank" .... One of the best beers I ever viewed of late!

I typically like what coronado has to offer but i have to say that this one doesn't really work for me. canned 7/7/20, consumed 9/16/20 so the timing is not bad. maybe it got some bad treatment...
L: drinking from the can. the can looks pretty nice
S: the aroma is pretty nice but not as enticing as the tops of this style. some citrus and some pine but kind of muted
T: I'm just not feeling it. flavors are pretty subdued. it's bitter, ok, fine, but i don't get much else that is interesting. has a kind of vegetal note that I just don't find to be pleasant. kind of a bummer because i love the DIPAs
F: not particularly distinguished either way on mouth feel.
O: sorry but i'm just not a fan of this one. maybe give it another try when my monger gets a new batch. perhaps it was not stored properly on the trip from CA to PA. or maybe just let it go and stick to the (many) ones that I enjoy.

At the brewpub in/on Coronado. A proper West Coast DIPA. Although I enjoy a NEIPA as much as the next guy, I’m glad CBC isn’t giving into the pressure. They make one or two hazy hoppy beers but they emphasize West Coast styles and I dig that. This is delicious.

First thought is that this beer is refreshing. No, not like a drink of water after walking around Death Valley like the silent wonder “Greed;” it’s refreshing in the sense that it’s not a $5.99 Hazy that tastes like all the rest of them. This bad sucker was $2.99, and it’s a hella tropical and crisp West Coast IPA that I am sure Tupac would be drinking if he didn’t become a martyr.

Peace!

L: Hazy yellow. Looks double malted with a thick rim of head and lumpy lacing. Has potential. The body is heavy but what does it contain?

S: Tropical notes, dank, pine.

T: More piney, pungent than I was expecting. Tasted very hoppy. I'm not sure in a good way.

F: Resiny and bitter the whole way down. I'd like to see what they did with their hops to achieve this effect. I think the hops were pressed hard, perhaps that's why they're so bitter and oily. Alesmith does this too. California IPA, right?

O: I'd pick a Lupulin brew first, followed by Surly, Melvin, then Stone, in that order.

Picked up a single from TW Glendale 11-13-18 for $2.99. Canned on 10-15-18; consumed on 3-1-19. Cold stored since purchase.

Beer poured a golden orange with a nice long lasting white head.

Nose has hints of mango and pineapple.

Taste is very well balanced. A fairly large malt baseline integrates very well with mango, passion fruit, grapefruit and pine. Finishes with a light to medium rind bitterness.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied and fairly refreshing and smooth.

Overall i really like the taste of this brew though the nose does not provide the hint of things to come. Would have again!

A dam nice double IPA ,solid on the hops nose is somewhat weak but all in all a well brewed DIPA.
There canned is a better buy in Canada as the bottles are usually past date.

Canned on 12/27/18. 16oz can poured into a tulip. Pours golden with great clarity and has bubbles racing upwards; fluffy white head that falls leaving great retention and sticky lacing. The aromas have some subtle hints of citrus. Lots of fresh bread and crackers. Malts are there. The flavors come through. More citrus. Hints of orange and grapefruit. Subtle hints of black pepper. Some fresh grass in the mix. More bread and crackers. Moderate bitterness. Solid hop flavors. Malts do their thing. It finishes juicy and dry at the same time, but it's probably on the drier side. Mouthfeel is full-bodied with moderate to active carbonation. It's fluffy, sharp, smooth and easy to drink.

This is a decent DIPA. The aromas are kind of mild, but open up as it slightly warms. The hop flavors are solid. It might not be anything crazy, but it's enjoyable stuff.

Pint-sized can - Canned on 12/11/2018:

Pours slightly hazed gold with a thin white head. Lacing sticks.

The smell is of robust citrus with tropical fruits and a hint of pine. A strong, pleasant hop aroma emits from the can upon opening.

The taste is of fresh tropical fruits - juicy mango and sweet papaya - mix with bitter citrus (grapefruit) with a hint of pine in the long finish.

It has a juicy, smooth, medium (for an imperial) body. Alcohol reasonably well-covered.

A very nice hop-forward West Coast Imperial IPA. Very drinkable and enjoyable! Hops are fruit-forward with some pine. Enough malt backing to make it smooth.

Well-priced for a 6-pack of pint-sized cans (especially for the style). (Just under 14 at Sun Devil Liquors, Mesa, Arizona).

If you see it get it! Enjoy!

Type: 16-oz. can
Glass: Clear 16-oz. Bruges beer glass
From: Windmill Farms in Del Cerro (San Diego), Calif.
Price: $2.39
Purchased: Dec. 7, 2018

Picked this up with five others at Windmill Farms. Not that big of a Coronado Brewing Company fan (3.755 average) coming in, but recently had Weekend Vibes and it was awesome (4.31). Description read, “Brewed with a vibrant blend of Vic Secret, Mosaic and Citra, this Double IPA is bursting with hop flavors of tropical mango, passion fruit, and resinous pine. One sip and you’ll go from good to Never Better.” Not a fan of Vic Secret, but Mosaic and Citra are on my Mount Rushmore.

Poured a light amber clear color with three fingers of frothy-to-rocky off-white head. Lots of fast moving bubbles coming up along the sides of the glass. Perfect foamy spiderweb lacing. Almost perfect retention. (Sight - 5.00)

Smelled lime, Mosaic, Citra, floral, citrus zest, mango, passion fruit, pineapple, pine and stone fruit. More Citra and Mosaic from the can, but probably was slightly better out of the glass. (Smell - 4.00)

Tasted a lot of Vic Secret initially. Also lime, pine, herbal, mango, Citra, passion fruit, floral, Mosaic, pineapple and citrus zest. (Taste - 3.75)

Medium body. Creamy texture. Average carbonation. Long, slightly warming finish. (Feel - 4.00)

A solid DIPA for sure. I prefer Weekend Vibes by a large margin, but I’d have this again. (Overall - 3.75)

Clear light orange color-2 finger white head. Some lacing clings to the glass.

Fresh melon, citrus and light pine on the nose and palate. Well blended hop profile with nothing dominating.

Medium mouthfeel with soft carbonation. Drinks easy for a double.

Pretty tasty and well made. Definately a bargain at $13.99 for a six pack of bombers. I will revisit again.

16oz can - I don't know if I've never been better right now, but hopefully this might help!

This beer pours a clear, pale golden yellow colour, with three chubby fingers of puffy, rocky, and slightly bubbly white head, which leaves some splotchy and frilly lace around the glass as it evenly subsides.

It smells of dank pine resin, gritty and grainy cereal malt, some orange, red grapefruit, and lemon citrus peel, a further indistinct tropical fruitiness, and more leafy, weedy, and musky floral green hop bitters. The taste is grainy and crackery pale malt, muddled domestic citrus rind, clove honey, some mango and kiwi exotic fruity notes, and more leafy, herbal, and resinous piney verdant hoppiness.

The carbonation is adequate in its palate-satiating frothiness, the body a so-so medium weight, and mostly smooth, with nothing really getting in the way of a swell time at this particular juncture. It finishes trending dry, the mixed frooty hops holding the majority of the lingering cards.

Overall - this comes across as the new version of what I recall a West Coast DIPA to be - still hopped to the nuts, but without the attendant bitterness that first pulled me into the game. At any rate, this is good, to be sure, but given my previous sentiment, it doesn't exactly live up to its name.

Pine, resin, and grapefruit, mostly in the mold of an old school DIPA with heavy grassy, resiney aroma and flavor with very straight pale malt presence. A really nice, high intensity but drinkable WCDIPA.

Clear golden yellow brew with a lush and persistent white foam in the Pilsner glass. A honey taste along with orange marmalade and ripe honeydew melon. While this doesn't start out as sweet or as strong as the typical DIPA, it is pretty robust after some sipping.

BItterness is also pretty modest, though it does have a hoppy finish with some lime peel. This is quite fruity and complex, with the flavors opening as it warms. Quite sippable, a friendly sort of strong beer. I think Coronado would be more well-regarded with a glass of this stuff. From the 16 oz can purchased at Barons Market.
