Consumed and reviewed May 29, 2016.

Pours a mixture of dark gold and amber color with 1/2" white head. There is some slight cloudiness to the appearance. The aroma is a hodgepodge of hops that causes the aromatics of the Amarillo and CTZ hop to get a bit muddled in the bittering hops shuffle here.

Simcoe rocks the heavy bitterness up front, almost puckering (not like sourness pucker), plenty pine and green vegetal notes on this one, I'd say moreso than the citrus ones, and those are mostly bitter grapefruit anyways. Its decent, but not really much different from their other hoppy beers, other than the alcohol, I dunno if I could pick it out from their others in a blind test.

Bomber format makes it a tough repeat. Perhaps I'll run into it in a 4 or 6 pack someday.

Unknown vintage; drank 8/9/15 @ the Yarchives.

See-through light orange appearance.

A rough pour yielded a HUGE eggshell head; a curtain of frothy lace.

Pine, caramel & urine notes in the nose; gross!

Medium thick, sticky mouthfeel.

Honey & pine flavors up front; urine notes on the finish. Peanut butter emerged as this warmed.

I'll never have another...

April 13th, 2015 - Served from a bomber bottle and hopefully fresh from the brewery, the Sock Knocker is a cheekily titled IPA submission into the San Diego hop market, light and holden in color and a great foamy head. The scent is slightly soapy and a little nutty, but also engages with a touch of bitter green mizuna leaf and a spritz of lemon. The foaminess of the head shows its strength in the palate with a sudsy business in the mouth, and starting the sip a beguiling sweetness and delicateness up front. Its somewhat more sweet than citric like a lemonade, but the hop profile is given a little more leeway as the beer moves towards the back of the mouth, finishing with a citrus fizzle.

This was poured into a tulip. The appearance was a hazy burnt orange color with a one finger white foamy head that dissipated within less than thirty seconds leaving some messy lacing sliding down the sides of the glass. The smell had a big luscious sweet citrus and as it warmed, it spread to a pineapple, lemon, lime, grapefruit, mango and starfruit. The taste was fruity sweet and eloquently graced my taste buds with a fresh cut grassiness to balance. A lingering sweet citrus aftertaste leads to a big refreshing finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a good sessionability about it. The carbonation seemed good for its style and for me. Bittersweet harshness rolled over my tongue. Overall, very good DIPA and probably my favorite one by this brewery.

Coronado Brewing 'Sock Knocker IPA' @ 8.5% , served from a 650 ml bottle purchased for $10
A-pour is a light gold from the bottle to a clear pale gold in the glass with a small white head leaving a streaky lace along the pint
S-hints of citrus & floral
T-ok tasting DIPA , good balance of malt & hops
MF-mild carbonation , feels full bodied
Ov-ok beer

Here's a big brew that came a long way to my fridge. It starts off great - beautiful in the glass. All yellow and very nice and foamy. The lace is superb. The great, all hoppy and piney, if a bit weak for the style.

The taste is imperial. It's a malty IPA, with loads of hops but they are dominated by the malts. I have no idea how old this sample is. It could be older and the hops are subdued. But it is nicely balanced.

The aftertaste is sweet and piney. I've had other beers from this brewer and this may be the best. Recommended as a sweeter, more balanced double AIPA.

Poured from bottle.

(L) The color is medium golden with dissipating 1/4" white head and a bit of lacing.
(A) The aroma is a little grapefruit on the nose. Also getting some floral and piney hops.
(T) The taste is similar to aroma except more floral and pine than citrus. Just a touch of grapefruit.
(F) The feel is medium with a dryish finish.

West coast IPA. Expected it to be more hop heavy given the style and ABV. Very drinkable, though not a knock-out. No date on bottle. Maybe would've been better fresher.

On tap. Look is orange and clear. Smell is light fruity hops and a bit of spice. Taste is balanced hop and malt, but neither punches. Feel is ok, abv well hidden. Overall an unremarkable double. A friend had a taste and called this the bud light of double IPAs. I think that may fit
