Pours an amber almost cider like color with a nice hazy look to it which a two finger slightly off white head. Big lace at the top of the glass, with gobs streaming into decent lace. The smell is of basil and a nice caramel malt backbone. The taste is a nice and smooth, a caramel malt backbone gives way to a nice subtle basil taste in the middle to the back end. The mouthfeel was smooth and creamy. The drinkability is high, a nice easy drink which leaves you wanting more.

Nose is all basil here. But it's very subtle and not as intrusive as basil can be when on its own. Flavor is interesting. There is a definite brown ale body on there, but the basil wrestles with the brown ale it seems. They might take turns throwing some flavor my way. From what I can tell, the brown ale has a bit of a sweet side to it. The basil comes in and takes over the flavor profile in a way that offers some earthy tones to the whole thing. I don't know what it is, but there seems to be this consistent dry tone that hits my mouth. It makes me think of wines from the Graves region in France. (In particular, the whites which sometimes seem like there's a bit of gravel in your mouth they are so dry.)

Overall, this is an interesting beer. I think it would be best when paired with food. (Seems a bit too much, or too distinct, to drink on its own.) A very herb-forward salad, perhaps. An herb crusted pork chop? Definitely steak. I'm personally imbibing while feasting on handfuls of pecans, at the moment.

This was a suprisingly enjoyable beer. Expected an overwhelming basil flavor, but was very balanced. Appearance was typical for an amber - copper color with small off white head. Aroma offers slight hint of basil, mostly malt aromas. Front of the palate is a sweet malty flavor that finishes with much more basil than was available in the aroma. The balance reminds me of the way a sweet marinara sauce combines with basil in an Italian dish. Good carbonation...not overly so. A smooth, creamy mouthfeel - very pleasing. Overall a very, very well-balanced beer. Would pick up another growler of this in a heartbeat.

A basil Amber is not something you see or drink everyday!

A: Pours a nice amber color almost looks like iced tea. Provides a small off white foam head that dissipates quickly. Some spotty to moderate lacing.

S: The nose is very clean and inviting. Some lightly toasted bread, caramel and basil are the most distinct scents.

T: Very smooth and very balanced. Starts off mildly sweet with some caramel and toasted bread flavors. The basil is quite evident in the middle but it is not overpowering. The beer finishes nicely balanced between the caramel and basil.

M: Clean drinking medium bodied ale. Nicely carbonated. Leaves a slick and creamy taste on the palate.

O: Another great beer from Beaver Brewing! If you enjoy the taste of basil this is a beer you must try. I will be seeking another growler of this for sure. A clean creamy amber.

Got an early release of this at the Brewery! Dan was there and I convinced him to give me a Growler a few days before the release. Pours a dark amber color, the aroma of sweet basil hits your nose right away. The taste is smooth and creamy, the basil smell is more noticable than the taste.

mouthfeel is average, not as bubbly as it should be but that may be from it sitting in the growler for a few hours.

Very easy to drink, goes down smoothly. Can't wait for my neighborhood brewer to get more beer out there!
