If you spend any time in Sheridan County someone local will tell you a different story about “Bomber Mountain”. The flavors present in this medium bodied Irish Red Ale vary as widely as the tales, from biscuits and caramel, to cotton candy there is something for everyone to enjoy and more importantly to remember, about this sacred ground at 12,887ft above sea level.

Tap pour at Rib & Chop House in Gillette WY. Served chilled in a pint glass.
Medium amber colored body. Off white head. Leaves behind a thick spot pattern of lacing.
Faint aroma of toasted malts.
Taste is sweet and led by the malts. Caramel and toasted bread.
Medium mouth feel. Very slight spice bite. Good carbonation.
Good pairing with a rib eye, medium rare.

Poured from the can into a Nonic pint.

A: Off-white 2mm head and a deep copper body. Head lasts entire pint glass as a 1mm thick disk.

S: Earthy and herbal, natural hops for the style. It is a fantastic smelling Amber with the strong caramel style malt you'd expect.

T: Holy cow this is amazing. Herbal hops and strong malt backbone combine to a symphony of flavor only rivaled by the Ayinger family of bocks and malty beers. Top notch!

M: slick and smooth, no significant bite or malodorous ingredients to speak of. Carbonation is appropriate to the style, sprightly and non-offensive bubbliness.

O: I strongly recommend this beer as a "do try" if you find yourself in Wyoming or a trade with someone that lives there if you like Amber ales.

Poured from a can into a nonic.

Pours mid-amber and clear with a nice head and extremely good lacing and webbing.

Caramel malts and toasted grains rather forward, with some solid but not too strong grassy and earthy hop.

Caramel malts forward, but zesty grain arrives in midstream and floral/grassy/earthy hops balance this quite well.

The brew is well carbonated and has a nice drying finish.

A decent representation of a frequently overlooked but very approachable style.

June 2019...pours reddish amber with scant foam. Caramel nose, but lighter. Cola flavors. light bodied. Sweeter malt with a light bite to close. Stock amber.

Drinking from a 12 ounce can describing the brew as essentially a grab bag of flavors. “From biscuits and caramel, to cotton candy…” I can see that, or taste that. I think the sweetness stands out the most, but there’s a decent red ale underneath. Pretty easy drinking, if a little thin for my taste. 2017/06/13

Having given a review of another , similar style (which was outstanding) earlier, I was wary to do this one on the same day. Curiosity got the better of me...

A: Golden amber, which is what the beer claims to be--not an Irish Red, as stated here. Head is a little short-lived and somewhat fizzy, but alright.

S + T: Soft, caramel malts... little else. The flavour is also largely toasted, somewhat bready malts. There is essentially no hop presence in this beer at all. The taste does appear to be one that grows on the drinker with a few sips, though.

M + D: Medium bodied, balanced well with a moderate carbonation. This beer is among those that I may not rave about incessantly, but rather, pick up from time to time because it's not terrible.

Black Tooth Bomber Mountain Amber, 4.6% ABV. Pours pale red, with a one finger off-white head. Nose is malty. Taste is slightly sweet, bready, with light bitterness. Decent mouthfeel, overall very good.

a hearty and layered amber ale, better than most with quite a bit more levels of flavor in it, enjoyed fresh from the tap. its a cool beer, with some flavorful european ale yeast in it, a quality we dont often see in amber ale at all, and i really like it being present. the beer seems somewhat drier than normal as a result, which i also really dig. its not hoppy at all, but has a caramelized fresh baked grain composition that has quite a sturdy body to it as well as a little sweetness in the middle, but its resolved in the finish, and there is a warming toasted vibe to this that makes it very autumnal to me. nutty even, more robust than a lot of these, but still kind of simple and to the point in its overall flavor, approachable and familiar, but worthy of my full attention at the same time. these guys are making some of the best beers in wyoming and still seem to be cruising well under the radar of the local beer nerds (if there are any). i have been impressed with almost everything from black tooth so far, and as much as amber ale isnt my thing, this is really well done and more substantial and clever than a lot of these ever are. well done here!
