i have to stop trying random old beers laying around on dusty shelves. it does little justice to what this probably was, but its all i have to go on. when did this even come to colorado? ive never seen it before, must have been awhile, but i didnt see a date on the bottle. its a strong porter with cool packaging, but the beer is oxidized a bit, and as such seems thin. still, there is a real nice dry yeasty thing to this, sort of english sort of american, bready and chocolate forward, with a bunch of sandy yeast sediment. nice earthy roast to the malt, and the alcohol is well hidden, but something seems off. maybe its the stale malt thing going on, i accept that, but i can tell that this was good when it came out. some balancing bitterness on the tail end, and a few malt layers, sweeter crystal for a flash too. its carbonated nicely, but i think its just too far past its prime to be real enjoyable, although it did get better and better and better as it warmed up, more chocolate with each degree. beer from these guys is hard to come by, so i always support it when i can, but i missed the boat on this one i am afraid... this little bottle packs a punch though, whew!

Poured from a 33 cl brown stubby bottle. Pours dark brown, looking black in the glass. Only a thin beige head arose despite a moderately vigorous pour, and it soon reduced to a bubbly ring.
Aroma: Rich and very appealing. Features dark fruits and dark bread, with hints of toffee.
Flavor: dark roasted malts; just a hint of smoke but essentially no burnt character. Less fruity than the aroma but still clear suggestions of raisins, black currants and dried plums. A touch of spicy hops in the aftertaste. Excellent sweet/bitter balance leans ever so slightly towards the sweet side.
Mouthfeel: medium-full bodied with a near creamy smooth feel and low carbonation.
O: excellent, if centrist, version of the style. Well hidden ABV excepting some valuable contributions to the nose and flavor.

11.2oz bottle poured into a shaped pint glass...
A: Black; opaque; three-finger, sudsy, light tan head; swaths of sugary lace and swell retention.
S: Chocolate syrup; roasty char; very full aroma.
T: Dark chocolate; malted milk; cocoa; light coffee notes; bitter finish - a blend of hop and acrid malt flavor.
M: Full body; moderate carbonation; dry finish.
O: A nice porter - much better than their Hobo IPA; surprisingly hoppy; full taste and feel, yet hard to believe the abv is at 8+%.

Poured from 330mL bottle into a pint glass.
Appearance: extremely dark brown and non-translucent. There's half a finger of tan foam atop, which is nice.
Smell: nice roasty and chocolatey aroma, but also a little bit sour. Decent enough, but I think it could be a little cleaner.
Taste: quite roasty indeed with a big black-malt astringency and bitterness. A sweeter chocolate character is present toward the end, but this doesn't quite smooth out the harshness up front. So, not bad, but like the aroma this could be cleaned up a little.
Mouthfeel: medium-rich body with a great level of well-integrated carbonation. Smooth and creamy; love it!
Overall: I love the texture, but the rest of the experience, while tasty, is a bit on the harsh side. Perhaps expected for a beer of this strength, but smoother brews exist at this ABV.

250ml bottle served in a pint glass.
A: Pours a deep black color forming a big and creamy beige head when (aggressively) poured. Good retention and tons of lingering lacings left in the glass
S: Very roasted in the nose. Delicious notes of roasted malts, dark chocolate. Quite bready and biscuity, smells like liquid Oreo :p. Some notes of flowery hops and light notes of alcohol
T: Great taste. Strong notes of roasted malts. Light notes of dark chocolate and brown bread, Slightly sweet upfront followed by a pleasant bitterness. Interesting hoppy bitterness in the and of the roasted bitterness
M: Heavy creamy body. medium to low carbonation. Smooth texture. Good quality water. roasted bitterness aftertaste
O: Great drinkability. Excellent quality beer. Swiss classic. A beer that I'm gonna drink again, for sure

Recently stumbled across my notes from The Festival 2012. Lets do this!
A - Poured a nice creamy dark brown hue with a good light tan head that fades to leave a nice thin blanket.
S - Aromas of sweet malts, light roast, nice chocolates.
T - Taste is similar to the nose with nice chocolates, sweet roasty malts. Very balanced.
M - Mouthfeel is a bit too carbonated for my liking. Would like it a bit smoother.
O - Overall, a solid porter offering from Switzerland. Solid.
