Danish Red LagerDanish Red Lager
Notes: Danish Style Red Lager (Dansk Red) is inspired by the red lagers of Denmark and the signature red color in the Danish flag. This quality beer is crafted with a blend of European base and sweet caramel malt, creating a beautiful red hue.

Served cool around 45-50º in a tulip glass.

Bright reddish copper color, dense head of foam, good retention. Arcs of lace around the edges, surface of the foam has a creamy texture and a stained parchment color.

Aroma is malt forward, nutty, lightly toasted bread, vague dried fruit esters.

Flavor is clean and also pleasantly malty, bready with a light plum ester, dry finish with trace hop bitterness. Light and medium bodied with very little sweetness if at all. Pairs well with food. Thanks to WST for this one!

Ok Guilherme, it's your turn to select what we drink. He chooses the Danish red lager. Bring out two glasses and pour out the bomber. On to the beer:

Great color, head retention, and lacing. Brilliant amber colored, thick rings of lace around the glass, and a head that lasts forever. Not so much is the aroma, which is mostly a mild toasty sensation (no rhyme intended). However, the taste is an improvement, where the toasty malt is more intense, some bread crust is thrown in, and is a little fruity. Light bodied, crisp, refreshing. Reasonable beer, like a beefier version of Yeungling.

A- Light clear red amber body with a small bubbly white head that dissipated to a ring and left just a slight lacing.

A- Clean malt aroma. Sweet with a slight grassy aroma.

T- Smooth clean flavor. Caramel and light toffee. Very light bitterness. Dry finish.

M- Medium light body and moderate carbonation.

D- Quite enjoyable. A bit overpriced, but I am a sucker for a good Vienna Lager.

Had this while visiting my brother-in-law in Santa Ynez.

Poured into an American pint glass. More blonde than red, I was expecting more of a darker (red?) beer, judging by the name. 1/4" head which dissipates towards middle of beer. Smells decent, no off-aromas, but also somewhat nondescript. First taste is odd - almost like cardboard. This beer is as dry as a bone, which makes the bitter stand out even more than it probably should. Taste is of candied sugar, almost Belgian, which would also explain the extreme dryness of this brew. Good carbonation levels, and a tad on the watery side for a Vienna Lager, which should have more body/mouthfeel.

Not bad, nice to see more lagers, but this really wasn't something I will go back to.

Dark amber orange with a fast fading white head. Head looks great when initially poured but simply disappears quickly.

Nose is full on Belgian esters; almost too sweet but very full with sweet cooked orange rind appeal.

Mouthfeel is rich but light and bright and inviting. Well balanced with nice carbonation.

Flavor profile is a nice and inviting "malty/yeasty/bitter" brown. Hints of toast, coffee and light bitter chocolate/roast grain.

Finish is a malty bitter, burnt toast/roasted grain bitter that is long lasting.

The color is amber with an attractive coppery cast. Adequate foam but not much lacing. Fragrant nose and a perfumey taste like a spicy cactus candy.

I am baffled by what a "Danish Red Lager" might be, but this is indeed reddish and maybe they like their beers sweet in Denmark. For a modest alcohol content it has quite a full body. Feels a little stich as well as slick in the mouth. A sweet and malty mouthful without much else to tickle the palate. Pretty slim on hops (brewer claims 26 IBU). I would not like to face a pint of this, but it makes for an interesting short glass from the bottle.

Another new brewery out of nowhere. Photo of the 22 oz bottle purchased at Bottleworks in San Diego.

Figueroa Mountain Danish Style Red Lager

Note: $6.29 at Whole Foods. Bought this on accident I meant to buy the poppy IPA. Pissed they had this behind the IPA on the front because I always grab the beer in back.

A- pour produces a 1/2 finger tan head on a deep amber body. No retention or lacing 3

S- sickly sweet malt, grains, off-putting 2

T- same as smell with the addition of some earthy notes. 2.5

M- lighter than average carbonation. Medium body. Sticky and cloying as it warms. Nasty. 1.5

O- after hurricane deck I didn't expect too much. Won't ever have another again.  This beer is not very good. below average.  2

Had this as part of a flight at Figueroa Mountain on Labor Day weekend, but have also had it again more locally at Instant Replay as well.

Review is from notes

A: The beer is a slight tinge of dark copper in color, clear, with Head that was just a ring of bubbles, and light smooth bubbles on the glass if swirled.

S: I have a hard time getting much in aroma on lagers, but I pick up some of the malt, scents of light Carmel, toffee, and grain.

T: Caramel malt, touch of toffee, and a light dry bitterness on the finish.

M: Lightly carbonated, smooth mouth, touch creamy.

O: Decent. Has this great mineral quality in the body of the beer, so it quaff's pretty crisp & refreshing for what it is.

Pours a clear copper with a foamy bone colored head that settles to an oily film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of toasted malt, caramel, and some slight metallic notes. Taste is much the same along with some herbal hop flavors. There is a mild hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that is drinkable but pretty basic.

Picked up a 22oz bomber from Baron's Market in Point Loma for $6.29 and poured it into an Odell Brewery branded tulip glass.

Saw this one on the shelf and bit on the random style rarely seen on American shelves - Danish Red Lager. In the land of IPA and DIPA, this was a refreshing sight.

A: Pours a clean burnt orange hue with a thin head that lingers a wile with minor amounts of lacing.

S: Sweet and malty - toasted grain - slight grassy finish.

T: Similar to the nose - toasted grain is cranked up in the flavor, slightly perfumey, light hop detected - not a lot going on here, but enjoyable non the less.

M: Somewhere in between light and medium bodied, good amount of carbonation that is appropriate for the style.

Overall great Euro style red ale - reminds me of a modern version of Old Speckled Hen or the likes. Nothing out of the ordinary just a solid take on an old style.

L: Pours an amber-red with a slightly off-white, beige head. Lots of nice bubbled, slight lacing left on the glass.
S: Caramel malts on the nose, with some sweet fruits like apples, maybe cherries and a floral honey-like scent to round everything out. An impressive nose.
T: Follows the nose, with caramel sweetness and apple crispness, balanced with honey and a nice toasty, crusty bread character as well.
F: creamy mouthfeel, not overly carbonated, and medium bodied. This is super drinkable.
Overall, this is a delicious beer that is built to be paired with food of all types. I recommend using it to wash down a hearty black-bean burrito with spicy salsa and rich guacamole.
