I think this is an excellent beer. For a double it has a light body and a good hoppy Cascade, Centennal, Chinook and Columbus flavor. Some doubles are too sweet or thick in body. I can think of another brewery in Buellton who's IPA is the best out there; but their double is thick and sweet in the bottle. This is not the case with Double Deck. It reminds me ofm SteelHead Double IPA from Blue Lake near Eureka California.

Had this beer @ Figueroa Mountain in their tasting room, as part of a flight of their beers, back on Labor day weekend.

Review is from notes.

A: The beer is a rich brown amber in color, with a solid inch of off white head, looks a bit creamy actually.

S: Scents of mild pineapple, lemon, pine, and Hay.

T: Medium tropical fruit hoppy bitterness up front, followed by caramel, biscuits, and an earthy mineral quality.

M: Clean, crisp, great smooth & sightly mild dry finish.

O: Pretty decent. Above average. Not a whale, but FM is not yet a year old, and this is one of their better offerings. Funny this is for this style, is it depends on the hops used, if your going to just like one, or love it. Some love citra hops as an example, and if it's not in a DIPA, they don't like it as much. Anyhow, on the menu it in the tasting room, it mentions they used Columbus, centennial, Chinook & cascade hops in this beer.

According to the bottle this is 8% ABV and 82 IBUs.

Deeply amber colored beer edging towards the color brown with a small off-white colored head. This is a hue I like to call bronze.

Smell is strong C type hops. Scents of pine and orange with a little grapefruit. Strong honey malt scent. Little bit of lemon and eucalyptus to this. Faint cedar aroma.

Starts out sweet with a woody flavor and a savory sensation on the tongue. Moderate amount of bitterness. Little bit of citrus but this is just plain woody tasting, like sucking on a teabag.

Mouthfeel is OK.

Overall I feel like I wasted my money on this one. Not much here but a teabag flavored ale. I suggest you skip this one.

I was told this was a double IPA. Served very cold at the tap room in Buellton.

A: a very enticing dark amber hue with thin head and nice carbonation
S: rich hoppy bitterness with a good malt presence. Light citrusy hops with pine and toasted sugar notes
T: very malty with hops to balance it. Rich citrus with a strong roasty malt backbone.
M: medium body with a nice coat on the tongue. Decent hopping that releases through your nose.

Overall: Not a blow your socks off double but very nicely done and when warmed up had a nice bitter bite to it. A bit strong to take home that day but will order it next visit for sure.
