This place has a Scottsdale address but is quite a ways north of the city. It takes a while to drive up there. We loved the shopping plaza where this brewpub was located - all of the businesses blend in with the desert surroundings to give a feel of an old west town. It's the most unique use of the natural surroundings that I've ever seen. Very nice!. Now about the beer: I was truly disappointed. They were sold out of the IPA. Everything else was European style. We tried a sampler and tried a pint of the Stout, which was OK. Not much of a crowd for a Friday evening. In comparison, you couldn't find a seat at the Four Peaks brewpub and the Papago brewpub was busy too. One visit may be enough for me, unless I hear that their IPA is rated 4.5 or better by BA.

The name of the brewery has been changed to Zona Brewing Company. This is in a ritzy North Scottsdale shopping conclave. The bar area and restaurant are quite upscale and quite nice looking. The bar has a small brewhouse tucked into the back behind glass. The places is really visually upscale and appealing. There are not a ton of seats available in the Bar area, which is separated from the restaurant by a foyer.

The beers here are quite flawless and really well made. I am really impressed with the beer lineup, each of the beers have been stylistic paragons, packed with as much balanced flavor as the style allows. The key here for their beers is balance. The balance between the various components of the beers is just perfectly crafted. I ate and drank in the bar area and the food menu is quite upscale and quite tasty. I went for what I thought would be a light dinner of three appetizers. A Desert Apple salad that is a mix of hicama, apples, dried cranberries, mesculun and other greens, walnuts and a citrus vinaigrette. The salad was just about perfect. I next was brought an order of the Tabasco shrimp, it was quite tasty, though only lightly spicy, but perfectly flavored and cooked. I finished off the night with some fish tacos, which ended up being quite a bit larger than I expected. The seasoning was quite light, allowing the flavor of the fish to shine through. The food was flawlessly done, artistic in its presentation, and very tasty.

The service here was friendly and prompt, regularly it seems that they have 6 beers on tap, they only had 5 when I visited though, oh well I will just have to come by another time.

I was able to visit The "New" Cowboy for the first time on a spring training baseball trip last month. The brewery was a little out of the way from our route, but it was worth the trip. The wild west atmosphere really stood out for us. We loved the natural desert wildlife surrounding the shopping complex that the brewery was in. The inside of the brewery was very elegant with a touch of southwest. We were a little disappointed that the IPA was gone. We had read some good reviews on it and were upset that we couldn't try it. We ended up settling on their Stout, which was very good. The Cowboy also had a number of their other brews on tap, but all were much too lite for our tastes. The menu looked great, but we didn't stick around long enough to try anything. I could see coming back to The Cowboy the next time that we are in town. Hopefully the IPA will be flowing!!!

The atmosphere was a little bit of a let down when we walked in, the bar area definitely had the most feeling, the rest of the restaurant kinda reminded me of a Midwest hunting lodge.

The beers are on average, pretty good. The Hefe is my favorite, I would recommend this as your first beer but they do have a great tasting glass platter of all their beers, nice sized samples.

Very nice looking food, and pretty tastey too. We enjoyed getting several of the appetizers and sharing those. The burgers are good as well.
