Served in a snifter at the brewery. Bombers are also for sale.
Ebony body, dark as night. Foamy dark khaki-colored head. Sticky lacing forms on the sides of the snifter and settles over the body. 5
Dark chocolate notes and subtle wine. As usual it's hard to detect much on the nose at the brewery with the strong aromas from the back. I'll edit my review when I have it from a bottle. 4
Mellow smoky character meets dark chocolate. Red wine touches the palate up front with a touch of tartness and oak flavor. Touch of caramel sweetness appears. A taste of coffee hits on the finish before a baker's chocolate taste settles throughout the mouth and lingers. I have to say, I find the balance of flavors here pretty masterful. 4.75
Smokiness provides a nice texture that complements the smooth, creamy body. A touch of tartness is all this beer needs and that's what the wine barrels do. A tad of sweetness evens that out too. Again, this is close to perfection. 4.75
Not much more to say. This beer is fantastic. 4.75

Thanks to Rado for sharing this one at Oneinchaway's tasting.
Pours an almost opaque super dark brown with a foamy khaki head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Tiny dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, cocoa powder, earth, and slight smoke aromas. Taste is much the same with cocoa powder, char, and smoke flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of roast and smoke bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer with nice smoke qualities all around, but I am not getting any wine barrel aged characteristics whatsoever.
Serving type: bottle.
