I found a bomber of this, so I bought it, because I like La Cumbre. This is all bourbon all the time... so if you like that, then pick this up if you see it. It's just a regular amber ale base, I think, but the bourbon barrel aging pumps it up to 10% ABV and adds much more flavor. Nowhere on the bottle did it give the ABV, so I was a bit surprised after I drank it, but this is typical for barrel-aged beers so I should have guessed it anyway. Another nice beer from a brewery that can do more than just hoppy IPAs.

Tawny, reddish-brown body; thick head, sticky and creamy. Boozy caramel aroma. Toasted malt, caramel and brown sugar flavors; a whisper of spiciness; whiskey; heavy sweetness. Heavy body; dense and syrupy; some alcohol heat balancing out the sweetness.
This beer comes across like a boozy brown ale. There is a definite malt character with a sense of earthy spiciness and an edge of booziness. Big and crazy...

Dark amber brown body with two fingers of dense tan foam. Bourbon booze and flavoring, rye, rugged wood, caramel, slight vanilla, and black pepper. Taste is more earthy and smoky, a little sweeter than the superior nose indicated, but overall a nice rye ba ale. Feel is smoky, slightly syrupy, dense and sharp intermittently amongst the smooth viscosity.

Pours dark red with a brownish/amber hue. A nice, surprisingly long lasting cream colored head that leaves nice lacing on the sides of the glass. Aroma is rye, whiskey, chewy caramelt, a tease of some fruit essence, a kiss of maybe some vanilla, resiny hops. Flavor follows suit but with the addition of a nice roasty finish, maybe of some mocha? A medium to heavy mouthfeel, allowing the beer to linger in the mouth. Overall, awesome beer.
