Style: Hefeweizen

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.40%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
A traditional take on a Bavarian classic. Poured into a 23 oz. Hefe glass, this beer is served mit hefe with a voluminous white head. The aroma is everything we love in the style; clove, banana and vanilla. The body is rich and creamy, yet finishes fairly dry and is as refreshing as any beer you’ll drink here or anywhere else. By popular demand, this beer is now a year-round offering.

An excellent take on a traditional German style beer. Excellent cloudy appearance, copious amount of banana and clove on the nose. Feels substantial in your mouth while at the same time feeling easy to drink. Delicious!

A - Pours a dark hazy golden hazy color and no lacing ring and no carbonation. Doesn't look very wheat beer like.

S - Bananas, cloves, .

T - Follows the nose with bananas, cloves, lemon, and bread.

M - Medium body light carbonation, coats the mouth with banana and clove.

O - A nice American version of a traditional German beer.

Poured from a can into a tall glass. Thin head and light lacing, slightly cloudy yellow color. Smell is floral and strong. The taste is clove and banana with a bit of vanilla. Could have used a bit more carbonation. Had it fresh some time back at the brewery, better there. Overall, a nice beer.

Can from Whole Foods -Indian Plaza. Solid weizen, only knock is a head which fades way too quickly. Aroma ànd taste on target, body almost heavy enough to match up with the Germans. One of the best American hefes I've tried.

Yeasty, Bready, Clove, Banana

Cloudy gold (as it should be) with a white head, this Hefeweizen’s nose is good and yeasty with bread, clove and banana notes that follow into the flavor. Crisp and smooth on the palate with a fairly full body for the style and a lemony smack of bitterness. The finish is dry, tannic with some wheat huskiness, and doughy with lingering yeast complexities. A Slice of Hefen is slightly rough around the edges, but overall it's one hell of a thirst-quenching German-style wheat beer.

As reviewed in BeerAdvocate magazine #112 (May 2016).

Poured into a beer glass. Orange, golden color with visible sediment. Slightly underwhelming note of of clove and banana in the smell. Good yeast flavor with light hints of sweetness and spice. The alcohol comes through at the end. It has high carbonation and a medium-light body. A pretty good hefe that finished right but could have had a little more of the traditional hefe taste at the beginning and in the middle.

Served in a Weihenstephaner half-liter glass from a can.

Golden and blonde in body. Magnificent head, clarity and lacing.

Banana bread with hints of lemony zest. Smells like I could eat it.

I'm just drinking banana bread here. Tastes like sticky banana a tad spicy like clove, and has a goat's whisker of nutty sweetness.

Refreshing mouthfeel of measured sweetness, earthy spice feel from the clove, light carbonation and a touch of zest. Drinks easily.

Call me a homer but this is a good brew.

Yes, this is a great hefeweizen. It's heavy on banana up front, then is fades to let the doughy wheat step up, then gentle spice roll in for a balanced finish. The aroma can be a bit yeasty at first, it reminds me of too-fresh homebrew, but as that settles out the banana takes over. This is a real nerd's hefeweizen, tons to consider.

Gorgeous, cloudy Hefe--not too many bananas. Drink this beer.
