This is La Cumbre’s aptly named American style lager—an American-style pilsner, from what I understand, right down to the use of rice. Proving that adjunct brewing does not have to mean flavorless.

“Give me a beer.” Ha. Under the most nondescript of names goes one of the most flavorful of light pilsners I have tasted in recent memory. (Which means, one of the most flavorful of pilsners I have tasted, period. I’d say this ranks second to Live Oak’s incredible brew in my opinion.) Utterly fantastic.

This poured a clear, light golden straw in color with thin lacing. It has a lightly hopped aroma with green grassy notes. Flavor—oh, what flavor!—is crisp and grassy, with a mild biscuity finish and a honeyed sweetness that emerges as it warms. Pleasing and enjoyable.

this is brilliant stuff, shockingly underrated, but just like the name, the can, and the nondescript nature of its presentation, this beer is nothing crazy, just an infinitely better version of your grand daddys swill. its clear and bright and bubbly and heady and creamy and super low alcohol yet full on flavor. love how clear and pretty this is, delicate looking, but one taste and its obviously so different than the yellow beers of old. the lager yeast is crisp and clean, but flavorful over the pale malt. there is a classic old world hoppiness to this, bitter enough, impossibly dry, yet also flavorful. something this drinkable that still has character is hard to come by, and these guys have nailed it. i like the lager yeast, i like the fluffy grainy feel for how low alcohol it is, and i like the huge champagne style carbonation. its infinitely refreshing when its ice cold and it doesnt warm up too bad either, way better than macro lagers of any kind that i have found anyway. amazing mouthfeel and flavor overall, maybe some corn in here with the pale barley. i wish it were a little cheaper than it is, its not exactly the keystone suitcase pricing, but its worth paying the difference for such a superior beer in the light lager category. glad to have this awesome beer in our state of colorado now. i am going to drink the absolute crap out of this one this summer! needed a beer like this and finally found it!

BEER

Served at the brewery in a ten ounce pils glass. I don't need big pours, son!

Light golden body, perfect clarity. It looks flawless. Lace is sticky and widespread. Foamy white head is there but I didn't give it time to dissipate. 5

Smells malty with a light floral hop. A bit of spiciness too. 4

Sweet malt and a corn-like flavor. A spicy hop flavor wrapped around the bready sweetness. The finish has a beautiful floral touch. 4

Light, full-bodied and carbonated and bitter when it needs to be. Light bitterness lingers to offset the sweeter front. 4.25

A thanks to the commander of the canquest, woodychandler, for this beer. Poured from a 16 oz. can. Has a pale yellow color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is mild, grains, some malts. Taste is the same, light grains and malts, a bit of an unusual aftertaste. Feels light in the mouth and overall is a mediocre beer, no better than many cheap lagers.

Let this be the first beer of the Summer of Pilsner! Pours very pale and very clear, fluffy (marshmellowy?) head. Aroma is pretty subdued with crackery grains and herbal hops. The taste is more interesting. Lemony sweetness, biscuity malts, and pleasant bitterness. Bitter and nice floral aftertaste. Soft, creamy mouthfeel. A good, very drinkable and flavorful lager.

Canned 4/26/16 and brought to East Coast for Philadelphia Beer Week. I definitely appreciate the no-nonsense name. Poured into Kane Belgian tulip glass.

L: Very pale golden, mostly clear. Some carbonation bubbles. 1F+ head with some retention and lacing.

S: Very light malt, a little bit of bready yeast. Like a lighter Budweiser, which is not the greatest of signs...

T: Yeah. Malt-forward, light cracker, bready. Not unpleasant and crisp, but just nothing to it, either.

F: Light body, medium carbonation, crisp and balanced. Easily drinkable and refreshing.

O: There's nothing wrong with it, but I see no reason to pay 3x as much for a Budweiser tall boy for what essentially is the same thing.

Clear very pale colored beer with a momentary white colored head. Whatever its charm is looks are not it.

Smell is pilsner malt and noble hop. Hop scent is mostly grass and hay with a little lemon. That is about it not a very aromatic lager.

Starts out mildly sweet and spritzy with a lemon and toasted grain after taste. Medium level of bitterness. Nice mild ale that would be wonderful on a hot day.

Mouthfeel is light.

Overall pleasant light lager.

Very Pale indeed. Quite clear and a lovely white top. Pale hay color. Lots of lacing, more than I expect from this style.
Aroma is a little sulfur, some yeast, for a moment a touch of citrus and a bit of grain. But mostly the yeasty character.
Smooth drinking lager. Nice drying on the finish with some hop bittering that lingers, but enjoyable. Some grain, but light. A fair amount of yeast character and a smooth hop flavor that moves to the bittering. A touch of the citrus as with the aroma. Some astringency.
Fully carbonated as is want for this style. A little water, covered by the carbonation, but close for style.
Nice lager. Enjoyable hop flavors. I'm gonna' be done with this one before it warms
Many thanks to ONovoMexicano for this little slice of pleasure.
