3 week old bottle. Sweet malt backbone. Pine, citrus rind, grape skin, grapefruit juice and pith. Big bitterness. Extremely dry finish. Medium bodied. It's ok.

22oz bottle from Susan's Fine Wines & Spirits (Santa Fe, NM). 8.49. Bottled 9/30/16. Served in a wi e glass.

Pours orange amber with two and a half fingers of dense white head. The froth recedes to a splotchy surface haze and wide band, leaving a good bit of lacing behind.

Smells of melon, orange and some faint bread. Not much that I can specifically name but I like what I smell here.

Flavors are clean with melon, mandarin, berries, wet grass, a mild sweetness and a gentle nip of alcohol. The excellent Nelson Sauvin hop character helps this go down as easily as a session ale with half the abv.

Soft, medium body with pillowy carbonation. Finishes slightly bitter with its pleasant hoppy notes of melon, berries and citrus.

This is only my third brew from La Cumbre but I'm prepared to state that they really know what to do with hops. Full Nelson is a juicy, well rounded DIPA that I found incredibly easy to drink. This would be a go-to for me if it was available.

650ml bottle, dated 9/30/2016. Served in a snifter glass 10/14/2016.

Pours a golden yellow body, clear in clarity, one and a half finger frothy white head with good retention, nice staying power and bits of lacing. Smells super dank, tons of spicy grapefruit with a solid caramel malt backbone in the back. The nose is impressively hop-forward with that distinct dankness that I've come to associate with La Cumbre. Impressive stuff. Flavour is fairly similar; spicy grapefruit, bit of lemon, solid caramel malt backbone that perhaps doesn't seem to hold up against all the hoppiness, but in this case, it seems to work well enough for the beer. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, crisp and dry with a hefty grapefruit bitterness on the finish. Another beer that lives up to La Cumbre's modus operandi- heavy dank hoppiness.

Poured into a tulip

Appearance: a beautiful honey color. Bright with a 1 finger off-white head, which fades quickly for the style.

Aroma: sweet malt with the hops in the background, but the malt dominates the aroma. The aroma is akin to a sweet roll.

Flavor: sweet malt and then come the hops. The hops, though, seem low for a 2X IPA. There are few layers or dimensions to this beer. The finish is all malt.

Mouthfeel: medium - as expected for this style.

Overall: meh. La Cumbre makes great IPAs in Elevated and Project Dank, but Full Nelson is nowhere close to being in the same league. This beer was disappointing after trying their other IPAs. Skip this beer entirely and opt for Elevated or Project Dank. This beer is a complete non-event.

Attractive orangey golden brew with an enthusiastic foam in the Troubadour tulip. Vast aroma of oranges, hot mango, cat pee, and fermenting pineapple. Sharp and acidic with hop oils, which seems to go along with the sweet malt bomb flavor.

This is actually kind of an insane overdose of an otherwise delicious hop. It seems more coarse and brutal than it ought to be. I agree with BucannonXC5 that a modest bittering hop followed by later hopping with the Nelson would be the way to go. Big flavor, though, and a tasty brew to sip.

From the 22 oz bottle purchased at Susan's Fine Wine & Spirits in Santa Fe.

Bomber. Bright orange-copper, finger white head with great retention, spotty lace. Powerful aroma of sugary malt and some dark fruit, touch if citrus. Caramel sweetness in the taste is met with powerful dank hops with citrus and some earthy/floral notes. Touch of alcohol warmth in the finish. Mouthfeel is on the thin side, but slippery. Very good DIPA, a touch on the sweet side which is not a surprise with the abv, plenty of hop balance.
