A - Pours a murky golden orange with a two finger fizzy white head. The head dissapates quickly leaving almost no lacing.

S - Aroma is Belgian yeast, some light tropical and lots of barnyard funk.

T - The taste is sweet malts, Belgian yeast with light tropical fruits in the finish.

M - Light body with medium carbonation. Smooth mouthfeel with a light crisp finish.

O - A nice Saison. Light and easy drinking.

This ale, "Saison du Maison," still is brewed. I bought two cans in June and am glad I did.

Labelled as Tier 2 Brewer's Reserve, this 6% ale is similar to the BA entry called "Saison" (probably with more malt and brewers sugar to make up for the .4% difference as noted.)

While the look is perhaps murkier than I expected for the style, the taste actually is true. I can see this going with many foods with garlic and butter-fat because the carbonation is just enough to cut through the fat... but not too much for me to say "this has too many bubbles by itself."

Overall, I gave this extra points because I like Brewery Vivant and bought this during an urbanism tour of Grand Rapids, where their brewpub is... both a success.

Appearance: a really unique color. Very light orange with pinkish hues. Almost rose colored. Perfect clarity, it hardly even distorts something see. Through it. Small whitish head that leaves nothing behind.

Smell: earthy aromas first. As you get through the intial earth it becomes fruity. Fruits range from tropical to citrus. Definite beligain yeast characters too

Taste: opens up with spelty malts. Very earthy. Balanced nicely by a nice light citrusy hop profile. After the intial burst of flavor I get more tropical fruits along with a distinct belgian yeast.

Mouthfeel: fairly light but quite sticky. Low bitterness and lots of dryness but not to the extreme.

Overall: a very nice complex saison. It is a little odd at first but it opens up beautifully. I really like the use of spelt in belgian beers
