Beer poured from can into a Tulip shaped glass

A - Beer pours with a half finger sized dark beige colored head; doesn't hold very well; body appears effervescent; color is dark copper, slightly reddish hue; moderate amount of lacing

S - Sweet, sugar and biscuit; extremely malty and packed with brown sugar; spices; caramel and banana; fruity

T - Deep malt flavor; touch of sour flavor on the sides of the mouth; fruit - like grapes and a touch of banana; moderate hop aftertaste; yeast; slight touch of mold at the beginning of the sip; alcohol - you can taste the ABVs

M - Effervescent; bitter aftertaste

D - Smooth malt flavor; great alcohol taste; very good beer, plenty of alcohol

A collaboration brew between Vivant and New Belgium. Fermented with Vivants house yeast for primary, then New Belgiums Brett Bruxellensis. 9.25% ABV

Pours out to a clear dark golden, forming a tall creamy yellow head. Firm carbonation about 3 carbs or so contributes to it's excellent retention and lacing. The nose is great...you get fruit like papaya, apple and mango from Vivants yeast and then the dusty, musty barnyard nose from Brett with some sour gummies in the mix. Mouthfeel is fullbodied. The taste is great...a tripel style malt bill, more than likely some sugar to get a nice dry finish, a pleasant bitterness which prevents the beer from being overbearing or one-dimensional. Finishes with tropical fruit in the aftertaste and a subtle metallic note interspersed with a mild sourness.

An interesting beer. I don't think this beer would be very good in a year or so...the sourness will likely be overpowering by then and mixed with the bitterness and metals, probably wouldn't sit well.

Wild mildly sharp aroma, enticing. Orange colour orange taste,in fact a long finish of orange, though mildly sour mid-sip.Some tart berry, lemon Good drinkability. Brian’s can, thanks for sharing. Sweetened by sugar, brett. Perhaps next batch will really hit the mark.

Appearance: A bit of a gusher, but once that was addressed the beer pours a brilliant copper color with a massive head; nice stickage and lacing that sheets

Smell: Caramel, yeast, banana and funk

Taste: Caramel tones, up front, with rotting fruit tartness developing - fortified white wine grape, apricot and banana; the funk builds, after the swallow and both tart and funk flavors linger on the palette through the finish

Mouthfeel: Medium to full body with moderate carbonation

Overall: An interesting beer that is likely beyond its prime; the combination of the sweetness from the malt and the tartness from the wild yeast strains makes me think that there is more at work here than just the Brett; the flavors aren't great and it reminds me a bit of an Oloroso sherry

Cellared this for awhile in hopes it would improve, but it seemed the same.

Decanted into a tulip glass, it has a bright clarity and saturated orange copper color. Initial head of foam dwindles to nothing, no lace or surface skim at all which is odd. KInd of a dull winey appearance.

Brett aromas of wet hay, spice and dried fruit. Tangy and a little sweet.

More tanginess in the taste, just sort of oddly jarring and sweet, slick with low carbonation. Not much complexity, some minor dried fruit notes, mushy apple baby food, dull and overly sweet. Reminds me more of an Old Ale like Gales than a Bretty Belgian. Not dry at all really, just flabby and sweet with an odd tangy Brett finish. Not a fan, will probably dump out the last can... it's not worth drinking.

Orange-amber with a bright off white head, this smells like fermenting funky fruit--I'm mostly getting pineapple and tropical fruits--and those fruits carry into the taste, with the addition of some European hops, a nuttiness, and a lovely drying hint of funk. I get a hint of alcohol but am surprised by the 9.2%. Nice Americanized take on the Geuze!

16 oz can shared by Thorpe, thanks!

Pours a clear, medium dark copper with a transient thin white head that fades to a thin ring of bubbles. Nose of brett, sugar, apple, lemons, grass, and cinnamon. Pleasantly sweet and tart flavor, with a yeasty and bready base, with some sugar and green apple sweetness before a slightly tart finish. Medium light body with soft carbonation, well hidden alcohol. Pleasant but not exceptional.

Pint can poured into a Duvel tulip.

A- Clean copper body with loads of carbonation. 1-finger, khaki head fizzles to a light film all to quickly. Lacing falls back into body.

S- Lots of funk. Fruity esters of green apple and grape peels. Underlying caramel malt gets stronger with warmth. A little wine-like, woody? Vinegar quality comes out as it opens up. Muted beginnings really improve later on.

T- Oh that's good! Lots of tart funk. Granny Smith apples, grapes, red wine vinegar. Dry finish. ABV is is apparent, though in no way harsh. While my description may be lacking, the flavor of this beer is not.

M- Tart bite. Dry. Quite clean with medium-heavy carbonation. Medium body.

O- Awesome flavor. Very drinkable. With somewhat limited experience in the wild/sour world, it's hard to describe all that's going on. With the very limited MI release ( I only got it when my local shop happened upon an extra shipment), I'm hoping for more availability with the New Belgium version. I think I'll hold on to the rest of my 4-pack for some special occasions.
