On tap at the brewery pub.
This is a whisky barrel aged version of their Big Red Coq using Jack Daniels barrels.
More tropical fruit than whisky or malt in the nose. A lot of tropical fruit!

The whisky comes out more in tasting, although mid-taste is still very fruity and has a bit of vanilla. Slightly too bitter?

Fairly smooth , medium body. Light but lively carbonation.
ABV is not at all hidden.

$ 6.00/small tulip on tap at brewery
Aroma of vanillin and oak – these remain strong for the entire tulip
Beheaded by barkeep – what remains is small (2 cm), off white, creamy, diminishing to 2 mm ring
Lacing – none
Body is a very attractive deep red-amber, clear.
Flavor begins with vanillin and malt, a little sweet, ends with a light citrus hoppiness. No alcohol, no diacetyl.
Palate medium, creamy, lively carbonation.

An odd beer. Bourbon barrel aging is pretty much associated with stout varieties, not red or amber ales. In this case, aging in barrels which formerly held cheap bourbon definitely adds some character to an otherwise weakly flavored beer. Unfortunately, the character added is vulgar and very loud, but also strangely appealing. I would definitely drink this again as a guilty pleasure.
