My wife recently took a work trip to Cincinnati & naturally I requested that she bring back some beer from Ohio, specifically beers that I am unable to get in Chicago. She came back with 3, 2 of which I have already had (but really liked) and 1 which I had never had before. This beer is that one.

This beer pours a white head that is frothy with just a little bit of creaminess to it and dissipates ultra slowly. The beer itself is clear and a golden amber color, leaning more towards the golden, with moderate carbonation visible. There are also trails of yeast the form tendrils coming down from the bottom of the head which makes for a very cool effect. 4.25/5 The aroma is very citrus centric with notes of grapefruit, pineapple, mango, papaya, and tangerines. There is a bready undertone that adds an earthy layer to the sweetness of the citrus. This is a very bright, fruity, and sweet aroma that is quite enjoyable just to smell. 4/5 The flavor starts out with tangerine sweetness and just a hint of white bread before moving into the pure hop profile of grapefruit, pineapple, tangerine, and lemon. As the beer warms there is a bit of bready malt that comes through underneath the hops, adding a subtle layer of earthiness that cuts into the citrus This is a pretty sweet IPA that has a good bitter backbone. The bitterness is moderate and lingers slightly. 4.25/5 The mouthfeel starts off with a light carbonation tickle that moves toward a slightly drying, medium body that drinks heavier than it tastes. The dryness lingers very lightly after swallowing. 4/5 This is a really good IPA that finds a nice balance between sweet and bitter while remaining focused on the massive hop profile. I can easily see why this rates so high on BA and I concur with that rating. What floors me more than anything...is that my wife somehow picks up these awesome beers without knowing what they are! 4.25/5

Bottle.

A - Hazy amber with good carbonation and a two finger dense off-white head. Good lace rings and a half finger retention.

S - Candied pineapple. Sweet malt. Diacetyl.

T - Diacetyl in the finish. Lot's of candy and minimal sweet fruity hops. Honestly, very little going on for an IPA. Tons more malt than expected and very little explosive hop character. Sweet malt all the way through.

M - Good bitterness, medium carbonation, medium body.

O/D - If you're gonna write "malt, take a back seat please" on your bottle, it probably shouldn't be malty. This there was some initial fruity hops, it's just not enough for the style and the diacetyl is obviously showing. I will not finish this. Likely a bad bottle, but it's what I have in front of me.

L: Ironic name given that this pours a dark muddy Amber. Really not an attractive beer.

S: Piney and malty.

T: Malty but with a curious sort of lightness and hop quality to it.

F: Pretty standard IPA

O: Overt malt character is not my cup of tea, but still pretty good.

Pint at the Winking Lizard Cleveland
Slightly hazy orange amber with a decent tightly bubbled off white head that persists. citrus and tropical with plenty of pine and a bit of biscuity malt to counter. Pretty tasty.
