This is a damn gusher of a beer. When I finally got it under control, after being covered in beer, I've got a liter glass with an inch of beer and 5 inches of head. No real place to take off points for that here, so I'll do it on appearance.

It does have a nice aroma, very malty, with peppery rye making a nice component of that--nice and caramel, with a little toffee-ish scent. Taste is a good mixture of strong bitterness and caramel malt whose sweetness never quite disappears under the hops. The hops are citrus-grassy, and dry things out at the end.

I like it, even though my hands are sticky from dealing with the beer all over my counter.

Consumed on July 24th, 2013. Bottle purchased in mid-June in Cleveland metro area.

Beer pours a clear amber/copper hue. A one finger yellow/tan head forms then fades, leaving a thin crown and some sticky sheeting.

Aroma is peppery rye over a bed of melanoidin-y malt. Dashes of herbal, earthy hop fleetingly appear.

Flavor is nice; it starts as a smooth caramel flavor, then segues into a lightly peppery finish. Bitterness is low but still noted, mainly on the aftertaste between sips, accompanied by some dryness. "Juicy" flavor character (so called because I didn't want to use "melanoidin-y" twice in a review). As beer warmed, the rye began to assume a more dominant role in the flavor. As glass drained, the dryness and bitterness became more pronounced.

Mouthfeel is a little thick and a little creamy and this makes it a lot nice to drink.

Very nicely executed; there's nothing here worth shouting from the rooftops over, but that doesn't mean this isn't a well-done beer that I would happily drink again. The rye really helps set this apart from all the other ambers out there.

A: A beautiful dark amber with a one finger tan head that is leaving some nice lacing.

S: A touch of sour yeast and caramel malt on the front. bright citrus in the middle. spicy rye comes out on the end. there are some spicy earthy hop characteristics scattered throughout the aroma as well.

T: Right up front there is a spicy rye. A bready maltiness that definitely brings the rye. It morphs into some earthy hops next. Big pine and some dry grapefruit. The finish is more spicy rye bread. Dry.

M: This is a bone dry beer. Lighter bodied with a small amount of carbonation. The finish is long and dry.

O: Holy Rye! there is alot of rye spice and dry bread in here. It is well made and i can't stress enough how dry (yet drinkable) this brew is. Has a real bite to it that i'm loving. Would pair great with food. / 89
