Poured from 12 oz bottle into pint glass. A 2" tan head drops slowly with no lacing. Color is dark brown with abundant carbonation. Aroma of rich roasted malt, dark fruit, cocoa, floral hops. Mouthfeel is unexpected light and extremely fizzy, very much like a coca cola. Flavors are more muted than the aroma but have the same characteristics. Overall this was a hard one to rate as there were parts that I loved and other aspects that were confusing to me within this style.

Nice pour. Dark rich color. Light taste. Not heavy or over flavored. A little too light. A good session stout though.

Mastiff is a black, effervescent oatmeal stout with sullen orange highlights; it wears a brief-lived, slightly pebbly medium tan head that leaves decent lacing, consisting of thinnish spiky bands. The nose is medium in intensity and quite distinctive; it leads with peaty smoke, backed by a sweeter molasses-and-tobacco character with hints of milk chocolate and significant boozy undertones. The palate is dominated by a very tart, thinnish light chocolate flavor with hints of the molasses/tobacco from the nose, but none of its sweetness. The finish is a tart molasses ghost, followed by the onset of a mild, quite tart peaty bitterness that lasts for a few minutes. Mouthfeel is thinnish for the medium-full body, and the texture is medium-creamy and quite prickly from the overenthusiastic carbonation. (12 oz bottle, no code date)

Oddly tangy with a smokiness that doesn't sit well. Not sure how this can be called a stout- weak flavor. Hits the tongue with a curious acidity. Less than appealing finish. Coppery. The body is actually quite creamy despite the bottle's claim as "intentionally light." I would like to try this on draft to see if any different qualities emerge.
