Schroeder's German Restaurant has about 15 German macrobrews on tap and a full menu of classic German dishes. The bartenders seemed friendly and they put soccer on all the TV's. I got a fresh and delicious Weihenstephaner here and had a good time. The beers are about 6-9 dollars and come in glasses larger than 16oz, which is a plus. If you want, you can even buy liters or even huge glass boots of beer. While the beer selection here won't impress you, it contains a few classics and along with their good German grub, I recommend checking this place out--just be sure to bring ample funds because being in downtown SF, it's pricey.

Stopped by here for a beer after a business dinner meeting. The bartender told us he was closing up shop and it was only around 10:00, but he stated we could stay for a quick pint which was nice. The place is located in the financial district area so I guess not a neighborhood place that would stay open late mid week. The place is an old large German Hall with an old large wooden bar that could seat about 15 people. Plenty of nic-nacs around the place including some beer signs rounds out the feel.

Beerwise the place had about 10 drafts, mostly German and Euros. Paulaner, Bitburger, Spaten, and Weihenstephaner spark my interest. Since it was tail end of Oktoberfest season, I settled for a Spaten Oktobefest. The beer was fresh and tasty in the large mug. Since they were closing up for the night, I didn't see any food menu.

This is probably a fun place to hang when there is a crowd here. Next trip to San Fran I will probably try this place for Happy Hour.

An old school German restaurant in San Francisco's Financial District. Roughly ten to fifteen taps, almost all German style beers. Pilsners, hefeweizens, bocks, and various other dark German beers. I saw Sierra Nevada Pale Ale on tap, but otherwise all German and German style beers.

This place has been around for over 100 years and you can tell. Not because it's dilapidated, but because of the old wooden walls, bar and fixtures. Nice place to head in the afternoon as it's not too crowded and the light coming in from the door and windows creates a nice atmosphere. Prices are reasonable, especially considering it's location in the Financial District. They serve 19 oz. mugs, liters and larger sizes as well.

Fairly big sized room. I have not had the food but they have a pretty authentic looking German style menu that seems reasonably priced.

Definitely worth checking out, especially for the historic element, but if you are going just for the beer, you had better be a fan of German brews. It's proximity to BART is nice as well.
