Nice representation of a California Red Ale. Smooth on the front with lingering bitterness on the back end. Pours a beautiful amber with nice off-white head.

On tap at Tioga Sequoia Brewing Co
A: Pours copper amber with a frothy pale tan head that settles to a light layer and
S: Bready, malty, toasty, dark fruit, herbal earthy notes, a touch of pine, and burnt sugar sweetness.
T: Toasty bready malt, spicy herbal pine, a little dark fruit, light citrus, lemon and orange, and burnt sugar sweetness.
M: A touch on the fuller side of medium body, moderate carbonation.
O: Solid balanced red. Nice malty side that won't murder less adventurous palates, but it's still got enough bitterness to keep hop heads interested. Hits the spot on spring/fall nights.

After visiting 10 National Parks this summer, it was only fitting that I found this at the Gift Shop at Yosemite when looking for postcards. Never heard of Tioga-Sequoia before but when you see a beer with a theme and logo like this, it jumps out at you and not surprisingly, this nearly flew out of my glass just as fast! Haven't had a Red/American Amber Ale in ages but when they're done right, they're fun, easy to drink, and a welcome change from hoppier fare as this beer was exactly that down to a t!
Loved the pour to this beer as the liquid was indeed a clear and fiery red, with an offsetting head of bread that evened out nicely. One thick ring of lacing remained near the top of my pint glass with a thin one above that and a decent amount of spotty suds the rest of the way down. Floral notes, light fall fruit, and caramel were in the muted nose as the taste was much more nutty with hints of British hops and Pale Malt. Some bread and hints of autumn rounded out the taste as this was thin in consistency and clean-finishing as could be for a beer of this style.
While not a true session beer, I would have easily reached for another after finishing this off as the booze was hardly noticeable. "19621" was printed on the bottom of the can as I'm guessing that this was brewed on the 196th day of this year but regardless, this aged nicely as the Columbus and Crystal hops were subdued, sweet, and appropriate for the Malt, as well as for this style. Had I camped out there, I'd want this in my stash as it would have complemented the falls beautifully. Indeed, the description on the can was right when it stated that was a "...California Red Ale that anyone could enjoy"!

22 oz bomber poured into Stella Artois glass.
A nice mahogany blush with some lighter amber colors when held to the light. Head is butter colored and 3 fingers tall receding to 1 finger.
Aroma of toasty malts, slight caramel, and bready pale malt. Very slight grassy hop. It's an exceptionally balanced nose.
Flavor brings toasty nutty malt, slight caramel and brown sugar, with brown bread crusts and pale doughy malt. Slight grassy and piney hop.
Feel is crisp and slightly resiny. Slightly sticky, but finishes resiny. Mild alcohol heat.
Overall a fair to decent red ale. Nothing spectacular but somewhat enjoyable.

Dark red colour with a thin off white head. Smells of faint hops and slight flowery aroma. Taste has a nice hops/malt balance but does have a slight bitter hop aftertaste that lingers. Not bad but I don't see myself going out of my way to buy this one. Prost!
