Autumnus, Latin for autumn, is our take on a fall inspired beer. Our extra strength classic English brown ale is brewed with heavy amounts of British Maris Otter Malt at its core along with brown, honey, and chocolate malts. Molasses is added at the whirlpool stage of brewing to enhance its complexity and rich malt flavors. Hazelnut is added during post fermentation for a luxurious nutty twist on this already unique double brown ale. Year round or when the leaves start to fall, we promise this beer is a treat! Cheers

22 oz bomber from Donald poured into Crane snifter.

Light brown sandy color pouring to form a mahogany-brown and a creamy beige head of 1/2 finger.

Wow. Just an astounding, stammering amount of hazelnuts on the nose. Beautiful hazelnut butter. Slight tree sap. Wood bark. Brown and lightly roasted malts. Faint butterscotch.

Flavor is hazelnuts alright, but as if they were torched and blackened by a lighter. Slight brown malt, dry pasta, bitter herbal planty hops, burnt popcorn, various shades of pale and cara malts, and a huge presence of woodiness.

Feel is medium bodied with lots of busy, prickly carbonation. Dryness from the nuts, but also slightly from the alcohol.

Overall, a very interesting and good hazelnut double brown. I could do a 12 oz easy, that would be about right for me, but this 22 oz might be a touch too much of this particular beer. Might end up capping it for tomorrow.

Bottle poured into a Tioga Sequoia Brewing Co pint glass

A: Pours deep chestnut brown with a frothy tan head that settles to a light layer and laces quite nicely.

S: Hazelnut jumps right out, sweet toffee, roasty toasty malt, chocolate, earthy, and a hint of dark fruit.

T: Roasty toasty malt, milk chocolate, hazelnut makes its presence known, underlying earthy faintly herbal bitterness, a touch of burnt toast and dark fruit, and toffee sweetness.

M: On the fuller side of medium body, moderate carbonation.

O: If you're a hazelnut fan you'll probably dig this one. My only critique is that they could probably drop the IBUs back by just a few, otherwise really good stuff.

L - Rich carmel color, and medium head. Not as dark as I'd expect a double brown.
S - hazelnut, Hazelnut, HAZELNUT... and some toasted hazelnut.
T - A lot hazelnut with some buttered toast, and not too overly sweet malt.
F - Medium body, slight oily.
O - As someone who has had plenty of hazelnut adjunct beers, I can say this is the most clear and true representation of hazelnut I've come across.

Sure, one more for the road. Had a hard time deciding on my final one (before I grabbed a sixer of one of their lighter beers for the road), but went with Autumnus, which was labeled as a double hazelnut brown ale.

Poured a medium-to-dark brown color with 1-to-2 fingers of khaki tan, frothy head. Light bubbles coming up from the bottom of the glass. Very good lacing. Good retention. (Sight - 3.75)

Double hazelnut is right on the nose. Jeez. Also got roasty nuts, espresso, caramel, popcorn, toffee and honey. (Smell - 3.50)

Tasted almost exactly as the nose. Got popcorn, big dose of hazelnut, dark espresso, caramel, honey, roasty nuts, hunts of chocolate and buttery malts. (Taste - 3.50)

Medium body. Creamy texture. Average carbonation. Roasty finish. (Feel - 3.25)

Was just not that much of a fan of this one. I guess it was true to the style, but maybe I’ve been wrong about hazelnut this whole time. (Overall - 3.50)

Unique take on a brown ale
Pours a dark brown with huge head that quickly disapates. Really impressed so far as I can smell the malt or just sweet brown grain jumping out of the glass.
Smell is restrained hazel nut with other roasted grain
Huge flavor if smooth malt followed by a fist to the nose of hazelnut, it's relentless, if your not sure about how much you enjoy hazelnut this may be offensively strong.
Really nice texture and carbonation on the start and finish.
Awesome beer, cheers Tioga! Thanks Daniel U for the bottle!!

Bottle.

A: Deep, rich malt aroma with brown sugar, caramel notes, coupled with moderate hazelnut character. The beer finishes semi-dry.

A: Dark brown with a light amber hue, the beer is pretty hazy with a moderate white head that has adequate retention. There is light lacing in the glass.

T: Deep caramel, brown sugar malt sweetness, slightly biscuity, coupled with moderate amounts of hazelnuts.

M: Medium-light bodied with moderate carbonation.

O: Quite delicious; the beer is a hybrid of English browns: the hazelnuts provide ample nutty character (typical of South English Browns), while still being a luscious, rich malt oriented beer (Characteristic of North English Browns). The beer has a very rich, complex malt aroma and flavor that is nicely complemented by the addition of ample hazelnuts.
