BEER INFO

Brewed by:

Style: Weizenbock

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.30%

Availability: Limited (brewed once)

Notes / Commercial Description:
Never heard of the rarely seen, Bavarian-indigenous mammal the Wolpertinger? Well much like the original Wolpertinger, our “Wolpie” is a little Bavarian in nature, scarcely seen and definitely difficult to define…taxonomically speaking. We define “Wolpie” (beer-style wise) as Winged Nut on Acid – A high ABV, chestnut beer fermented with a Bavarian Weissbier yeast strain.

Reddish amber hued with a rather high amount of sediment lingering in the body. No discernible head. Aroma definitely features the red wine and sherry and I detect some sweetness from the honey. The flavor is a blend of tartness from the red wine and sherry. I get hints of wheat and sweetness from the honey. The body is warm and it finishes slightly boozy.

Pours an effervescent copper/caramel color with a thumb of pearl colored head. Superb lacing & better than average head retention

S: Bready, pears, cherry

T: Follows the nose, woody hops, oaky dryness, a kiss of booze up front. Leafy hops, figs, woody dryness & pear as this warms, gooseberry as well. Finishes jammy with dryness & woody hops, slight brown bread notes, plus a little boozey warmth

MF: Medium body/chewy with light carbonation

Decent take on the style, but was hoping for more

Chestnut brown and clear. It had a substantial foamy head with persistance. Spotty lacing.

Nutty and banana smells. Light spices.

Mild nutty flavor. Banana, dates, and clove.

Mouthfeel is full bodied and soft. Carbonation is on the light side of moderate.

A very nice beer. It feels like a cross between an american brown and a bavarian weiss.

A - nice copper amber color with a white head that dissipates quick
S - green apple, sour cherry, sweet caramel malts, oak, vanilla, white raisins, light molasses
T - sweet caramel malts, oak, vanilla, butterscotch, toffee, green apple, sour cherry, raisins, figs
M - medium mouthfeel, alcohol covered, aftertaste is sour apple and cherry, leftover sweet caramel and alcohol
O- glad.i tried it, but Man, this one's a little rough. Every flavor seems to be competing and makes it reminiscent of camo black ice. That said it's a much more refined version of camo black ice. I think a side by side is in order.

Awesome flavor, even warm. Had to drink this at room temp due to the lack of a refrigerator and I had to fly back home (carry on!). The beer has an excellent aroma, great taste, and is all around delicious.

Pours a cloudy, dark brown color. 1/3 inch head of an off-tan color. Good retention and slight lacing. Smells of alcohol, sweet malt, hint of cherry, strong yeast, hint of hop, and a hint of roasted malt. Fits the style of a Weizenbock. Mouth feel is sharp and clean, with an average carbonation level. There is also a pleasant tartness. Tastes of sweet malt, tartness, hint of cherry, alcohol, hint of wood, yeast, hint of pale malt, and wheat. Overall, good appearance, aroma, blend, complexity, and body. The tartness and dark citrus enhance this Weizenbock.

From a small, 11.2 ounce bottle, in a presentation box, this is an interesting beer. Not much to look at, it is reddish brown with a fizzy, short-lived head. Lots of fruit and wood in the aroma...raspberries, dry red wine, wood, earth, fig...mmmm. I love the smell. The taste lets you know the abv...lots of warming. Not a malty or overly sweet beer, the balance of flavors is nice. Fruit flavors continue, along with a serious Belgian-style spiciness. Phenolic and complex. Lingering flavors long into the finish. Enjoyable.

Very strong belgian yeast flavors, doesn't mesh very well with the sour profile. Soapy mouthfeel.
