Nosferatu (Bird of Death) aka Count Orlok was THE German Count Dracula. He was a blood-sucking vampire…but being German he must’ve enjoyed beer too, right? We believe it is so and thus have created a Black Pumpkin Wheat Ale in his honor…a “bier noir” if you will.

Very potent and alluring smell of roasted coffee and pumpkin. The body, naturally, strongly tastes of pumpkin, backed by a bitter backbone. While simple, it's a nice, toasty, bitter pumpkin ale.

The combination of Pumpkin Beer and American Dark Wheat Beer is quite an interesting one, but it definitely has me intrigued. I imagine the pumpkin here won’t be super aggressive, rather tempered by the darker malts. Let’s crack it open and find out

Pours a lightly cloudy reddish brown with 3 fingers of frothy light tan head that slowly fades to a cap and leaves decent lacing

The nose is pretty gentle but there’s a nice balance to it. I’m picking up on aromas of pumpkin meat, earthy wheat, doughy malt, orange zest, nutmeg, light cinnamon, and dark toast

Unfortunately in taste it’s a bit bland, but I don’t hate it by any means. On the front end of the sip I’m tasting earthy wheat, dark toast, pumpkin meat, allspice, light cinnamon, and vanilla. The swallow brings notes of pumpkin meat, pumpkin seed, earthy wheat, dark toast, raisin, brown sugar, and cinnamon

A medium body pairs with gentle carbonation, resulting in a creamy beer. Finishes truly neutral

While the taste is a bit lackluster, I still enjoyed this one overall

Pours a clear, dark brown color, opaque brown in the glass; thick, light khaki head, creamy, nice sticky ribbons of foam inside the glass. Great aroma of coriander and allspice. Very well-balanced flavors; delicate pumpkin pie flavor with touches of vanilla and a slight roasted nut quality; very light brown sugar; no significant hop bitterness. Heavy mouthfeel; smooth and velvety.

Well-balanced with a phenomenal mouthfeel aptly describes this dark pumpkin ale. The beer feels more like a lager. The pumpkin aspect isn't overpowering or cloyingly sweet and spicy. It is just a nice Autumn beer.

Like a dandy in frilly little socks, this one treats me dandy. It’s just a little trick or treat without the “boo,” and I like that. It’s not the hottest girl that Raul has brought home for thanksgiving dinner, but it’s also not a gangly catfish that he would toss back.

Undated can (released August/September 2023); drank 9/16/23 @ the Yarchives.

Opaque brown appearance.

A rough pour yielded a huge, noisy tan head; strong, frothy lacing remained.

Creamy medium mouthfeel.

Oak, cream, pumpkin & cinnamon flavors; overall very mild.

On the one hand it's not over-the-top, as many pumpkin beers can be; on the other, it's so neutral that it doesn't make much of an impact. Not one I'll seek out again.

Black in color with a beautiful thick off white head with a lot of lacing that lasts forever. Smells of cloves, bourbon, cinnamon, Flavors of pumpkin, banana & cracker, with no hop notes and minimal sweetness. The mouthfeel is not thick or thin, just somewhere in between. This is a very subtle and balanced beer as nothing really stands out but maybe that is it's genius. All of the different elements meld together. I like this beer. Really pairs well with desert!

500ml bottle. 8/8/17 bottle date. Appearance: Deep brown and murky, with a hint of ruby red and a medium light khaki foam head with some lacing. Aroma: Toasted maltiness, a touch of pumpkin spicing and some strong pear and clove esters. Taste: Moderate malt sweetness, mostly bread crusts and a touch of nuttiness, light pumpkin spicing of allspice and nutmeg, and a bit of pear from the yeast. Bitterness on the strong side for a wheat ale Mouthfeel: Medium to heavy bodied with a touch of creaminess and moderate carbonation Finish: Allspice, clove, and pear linger long after the swallow, with a touch of toasted bread crust in the background. Overall: Would have to describe this as a pumpkin dunkelweizen, and a complex one at that. The pumpkin spicing seems to both complement and contrast the fruity and clove esters from the weizen yeast, creating an overall really nice beer for both the fall and winter season.

Pours a dark brown with a tan head. Very dark for a pumpkin ale. Smells of pumpkin. Taste is pumpkin spice, with a malty aftertaste. Mouthfeel is medium. Overall, good fall seasonal.
