Having been in four times now, to include the rib crushing opening evening, I guess it is time for me to script a little something about Spring House's new Taproom.

Damn Lancaster is a mess on Saturday mornings. Spring House's new taproom is pretty busy too. Glad I arrived just past 11:30AM on a Saturday.

With large windows overlooking The Central Market of Lancaster (worth going to when open) and busy King Street the interior seems larger than it really is. A large, U-shaped wooden bar dominates the space. Numerous two and four seat tables are spread around the remainder of the space offering patrons plenty of non-bar stool options. A bar-sized shuffle board game, opposite the bar and the cool, old school, Zoltar Fortune Teller machine are available for your entertainment.

Well, the beer is trucked up from the brewery barn as soon as it's ready for consumption and a small, but well thought out menu of made to order items make things about as fresh as can be.

While the opening night was crushing our service still wasn't poor, if a bit slow. To be honest though I couldn't expect anything more for the initial shakedown. The past visits have been at various times to include a lunch stop, where I greatly enjoyed the pulled pork quesadilla and most recently a swing in for the new Mango IPA and an appetizer of Edemame Curry spread with pita, crackers and vegetables. The ladies offering bar service have been friendly, attentive and swift to offer up another pint, or half-pint, which I greatly appreciate having the choice to have.

The menu, while small, is still packed with plenty of quality choices to satisfy your hunger or to offer a late night nosh. The menu is catered by Carr's Restaurant and ranges from bar pizza and stromboli to wraps and sandwiches to dips and soups. All, of what I have had has been tasty and well done.

With the ability to have 10 beers flowing this may be a challenge for Matt to reach at the present time. Lately they have had 6 or so flowing. So, keep it at six and I will be happy, start upping the ante and I will be overjoyed.

Well, Spring House finally has a legit pub to showcase their beers and I like it. Sure, parking can be a bit of an issue in downtown Lancaster but the struggle is worth it. A cool place overall. I really like the Spring House characters on the walls, they add a nice touch. To go with fun vibe are good food and quality brews, what more could you ask for?

Pretty cool spot, It's kind of looks like a store front but they've converted it into a brewpub/taproom. The selection was pretty good. The food looked good but didn't have any. The service was good, I'd definitely go back in the future. The only downfall is finding parking on the street.

With it's light avocado green walls, beech wood benches, and galvanized buckets full of twigs and branches as a decorative features in the windows you might initially think you've walked into a health food restaurant - but there are the gleaming taps behind the bar! On the upper wall opposite the bar is a brightly painted, but kind of weird mural that depicts the names behind the breweries beers (they have a kind of cartoon-scary theme if you're not familiar). Beneath that there are metal chairs done in matching colors, and they also correspond with the brightly colored umbrellas above their outdoor tables as well. There's also shuffleboard, which is awesome in comparison to the current trend of just throwing some old board games into the corner (believe me, I never need to see another table of college aged nerds playing JINGA again). Finally, a wall of rusting metal leading back to towards the bathrooms and - GASP - a Zoltar machine round out the weird, semi-cohesive decor.

There are 8 beers on tap, all from Spring House, and in my opinion, they're basically regular beers with an occasional oddity thrown in - you won't be finding one-off specials or barrel-aged beers here. On the other hand they've got some decent stouts and IPAs, and there are 8 so you've got a fair amount to choose from.

The food is very good considering the venue and the seemingly tiny kitchen that they're working with. Some examples from their recent menu include:
Onion Rings, Cheese Fries, or a Pretzel Braid - $5
Chicken or Pork Quesadillas - $7
Hot Wings - $5/half dozen
House Salad - $8
Cheese or Veggie Pizza - $9
House Stromboli w/ meats, cheese and green peppers - $13
BLT - $6
Reuben - $9
Italian Sub - $8
Crabcake Sliders - $10
Chicken or Fish Tacos - $10

There are also specials every day of the week ($1 tacos, $3 dogs, etc.) and 32 oz. crowlers for $7 which is a pretty good deal considering they charge $6 for a pint at the bar and a lot of other places charge $8 or $9.

Overall I'd call it a decent stop for a beer whether it's for lunch, after work, or later at night - although it will be crowded.

I had a delicious mint stout and a delicious peanut butter stout here. These varieties of stouts have eluded me ever since, aside from Stone's Collab Mint Chocolate Stout (which was phenomenal), and a Peanut Butter porter I had recently. I don't know if they carry these year-round but I really want to try them again. The taproom was located around lots of other establishments in downtown Lancaster and I love the cobblestone walkways in town. I wish I'd spent more time here. They have a shuffleboard, which is neat. Their craft beer choices were solid too. If I'm ever in Lancaster again, I'll be coming back here without a doubt.

Taproom is a must stop if you would like to enjoy a great stout, or even their seven gates ipa. Typically I have good service, but I have hit some off nights as well when it gets packed. In the summer its always nice to enjoy your beer and maybe some food outside, though it is limited to only a few tables. The food is also good, but kinda limited. You have some appetizers as well as sub's and pizza. The prices are a little high for the quantity, but that's where quality comes into play. You can also pick up a bomber to take home with you or share with a friend, or even some Spring House merchandise.
