I am now clearing out some St. Boniface CANs ISO The CANQuest (tm)! The upcoming NBS is going to be quite an adventure with all of the space in the reefer.

From the CAN: "Brewed with: Cocoa Nibs".

I was a tad CANcerned about this one since it decided to pooch out its lid in the face of the unrelenting heat & humidity. I immediately threw it into the reefer to cool off & things seemed to resolve themselves. The Crack! of the vent was a tad problematic due to the pooching, but I am a CAN professional & made it happen. Nothing blew up on me, so I proceeded with a slow, gentle C-Line Glug as I was unsure what might transpire. It actually did a pseudo-cascade before ettling into just over a finger of fizzy, foamy, rocky, light-tan head with modest retention. Color was Very Dark Brown to Black/Opaque (SRM = > 34, < 44) with NE-quality clarity & cola highlights throughout. Nose was REALLY chocolaty, like chocolate liquor! No, NOT chocolate liquor like vodka, but like a throwback to when I was a wee lad & we visited Hershey Chocolate World when you could still see & smell the vats. Now, safety & insurance CANcerns have made such ventures a thing of the past, but when you smell cocoa nibs being melted & stirred into the liquor that will eventually become edible chocolate, you will understand what I am alluding to! This also put me in mind of the modern cold-brew phenomenon since it was reminiscent of hot chocolate, but cold. Mouthfeel was medium, but silky on the tongue. The taste was VERY evocative of chocolate liquor - not sweet, not bittersweet, but somewhere in between, very raw & very chocolaty! Finish was in that Twilight Zone between semi-sweet & semi-dry. It was chocolaty in all new & different ways. Mmm.

Can dated 09/20/18 into pint glass. Pours a nice dark brown with a coarse, light tan head that quickly dissipates. Initial impression is bitter dark chocolate and roasted malts. Not terribly complex. Mouthfeel is a little on the thin side; carbonation is medium. Finish is more dark chocolate. Profile doesn't change much as it warms. Would not revisit.

16 oz can, dated 9/12/19

Very dark brown, almost black. Thick cream colored head. Good head retention, and decent amount of lacing. Aroma and flavor of dark cocoa. Not too sweet. Medium to Fuller bodied.
