Style: German Märzen / Oktoberfest

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.50%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
Port City Oktoberfest is a traditional Märzen style lager, brewed with all German malts and hops. This beer is amber in color, with malty, gently sweet flavors of crusty bread, leading to a clean dry finish with a touch of noble hops. Our Oktoberfest is unfiltered and completely naturally carbonated, served in the 'keller' or 'Zwickel' style.

Our Oktoberfest won a Silver Medal at the 2013 Great American Beer Festival for Vienna-style Lager! Prost!

Look was a very nice autumnal auburn, with a slight head that dissipated quickly.
Smell was of spice and malt.
Tasted very nice, with hop notes, with malt and spices.
Feel was good, smooth, easy drinking but not thin or watery.
Overall, very nice Oktoberfest offering from Port City; one of the best of this year's crop.

Matte copper body with a big two finger head. Eggshell in color. Leaves a ring around the glass with some spotty, sticky lace.
The aroma is toasted malts, roasted hazelnuts, honey and green apple.
Toasted malts in the taste with a delicate toffee sweetness that mingled nicely with green apple and a noble hop spice bite.
Soft and silky mouth feel up front, finishes dry with a nice hop finish. Medium body with good carbonation.

Look: It pours amber with a bit of orange in it. It has an off white head with moderate head retention. It is clear.

Smell: The aromas are malty with bread and light bread crusts. There are no esters are hops.

Taste: The taste is quite bready with a low level of floral hops. It is very clean with a slight bit of sweetness up front and a dry finish.

Feel: It has a moderate body with a somewhat creamy texture.

Overall, a malt driven, clean lager.

A - darker than copper, more tan or auburn. Lots with a decent head that recedes fast. Decent, dad-beer like lacing.

S - pasted bread, honey, nickels

T - toast with a touch of toffee

M - not sweet, but deliciously refreshing

O - for years this was a style I avoided, but I gotta say, this is really nice.

A nice solid Oktoberfest with a clean biscuity deep malt flavor and a nice touch of slightly spicy hops. Probably my favorite out of a tasting of 9 different Oktoberfests.

Pours light golden orange, and crystal clear with a 1 finger whitish head that recedes quickly.

Aroma of sweet bready malt.

Taste is moderately sweet and toasty with a light bitterness.

Medium full in body. Syrupy with light crispness..

A very good Oktoberfest. It seems more complex than others I've tried. Well balanced.

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass. Pours orangish red with a small white head. Smells of darker roasted grain and fruity notes. Tastes of dark grain with slight caramel and fruitiness on the finish. Beer is light/medium bodied, good carbonation, crisp finish. Overall,

The beer has an almost marzipan flavor but there are notes of burnt bread which impart a surprising spiciness. Excellent balance of spiciness and sweetness here. Great brew.

Poured from a bottle into a glass.

Look: hazy. Light amber. Minimal head. Sudsy ring. Good lacing.
Smell: cool. Some spice. Metallic.
Taste: not much up front. Some slightly hoppy, fruity, metallic lager funk in the middle. Finishes with a nice yeasty bready quality.
Feel: sparkly. Fairly clean.

Rich orange-amber. Billowing, off-white head to start. It is nearly dissipated when I sit down. Nuanced grain aroma... semi-sweet passionfruit/pineapple juice, and a somewhat spicy rye-like undertone. Taste not as sweet as the nose. Albeit there is a juicy meta feel. Buttered toast, cracker jack finish.

Amber/light copper. Smell is caramel malt and a little spice. Taste is same with nice hop balance - hops made themselves known but subtle. Lots of carbonation. Overall liked it.

Quite the exceptional Marzen. Nice hearty malt with nice mix of grain and some caramel notes, balanced nicely with hops at just the right amount. Rich in body as well. Enjoyed this one quite a lot.
