Port City Oktoberfest is a traditional Märzen style lager, brewed with all German malts and hops. This beer is amber in color, with malty, gently sweet flavors of crusty bread, leading to a clean dry finish with a touch of noble hops. Our Oktoberfest is unfiltered and completely naturally carbonated, served in the 'keller' or 'Zwickel' style.

Our Oktoberfest won a Silver Medal at the 2013 Great American Beer Festival for Vienna-style Lager! Prost!

Clear copper, dense off-white head, great retention, rings of lace
Nose is pure malt- a hint of caramel but mostly toast
Taste like it smells, just a touch of spicy hops on the finish
Medium bodied, clean, appropriately carbonated
Really good

12oz bottle poured into a pint

A- pours a clear copper color with a one-finger foamy white head that has good retention before settling into a film on top

S- toasted bread crust, caramel, fall forrest floor, peppery floral hops

T- sweet caramel and bready malt up front with an equal compliment of spicy and floral hops. Mid-palate gives more caramel sweetness, the finish is toasted with some hop bitterness sticking around

M- medium body with medium carbonation leads to a foamy mouthfeel that continues into a crisp finish

Had on tap. Clear amber, nice balance of toasty malts and hops. Really nice example of the style.

12 oz bottle. Pours deep golden with tall, long-lasting, fluffy white head. Aroma is of grassy hops and bready malt. Body is medium and crisp. Grassy hops and bready malt nicely balanced on the palate. Finish is long and dry. Nice brew.

While most marzens can be sweet and overly bready at times this one is smooth and crisp. It’s got a great body and mouthfeel when you swish this around in your mouth. You can comfortably crush these as Fall lawnmower beers. Port City has really done well with their releases this year and this one I’m going to pick up again next year.

Pours a cloudy amber from the bottle, thick, slowly settling head. Nose is light, but there are some sweet malts and baked brown bread that is typical of the style. Taste is almost non-existent - a very light sweetness initially and the suggestion of bitter hops on the finish. Mouthfeel is thin and watery with a mild carbonation. Overall, a very light and unexpressive example of the style.

Not much for head but plenty of rich caramel in the nose, along with the beginning of a biscuit note. Flavor is direct and clean in the finish. A steady stream of roasted and caramel and bread note with almost no hops detected at all. Carbonation is maybe a touch light but the texture overall is a strength. Solid for the style, but not a standout.

From the bottle, it pours a clear amber color with a modest head that reduces to a nice ring and leaves lacing. Thenose gets a slight malty scent - sweetish. The mouth gets a slightly roasted malt flavor with notes of caramel.

The shoulder of this beer says: "BOTTLED ON 07/20/21 124618"

Appearance: It has a sun tea bronze body that is slightly hazy. It keeps a short white head with a frothy consistency. Although the head is short it retains well. Minimal lacing.

Aroma: Caramel popcorn, toasted nuts, and earthy herbs come through on the nose.

Taste: Nothing comes through on the front of the palate. Towards the middle there is some nuttiness which weighs heavily on the palate. Towards the back of the mouth some caramel comes through, and it lingers in the aftertaste like caramel popcorn.

Mouthfeel: It is medium-bodied and a bit slick on the palate. There is no real bitterness.

Overall: As a whole there is nothing really offensive or off-putting about this beer but it is a very odd interpretation of an Oktoberfestbier. The label states that this has "TASTING NOTES: TOASTY, SWEET, SOFT BITTERNESS" and those are fairly accurate representations of the beer. It seems to rely on this caramel character for the sweetness which at times feels out of place. It has a light nutty character which can be interpreted as toasty as well. It's a pretty average beer straight down the middle and while I wouldn't turn one down I probably would look for something else after having a single. I don't really recommend for or against it.

Attractive specimen; more amber than many fest biers, along with some haziness. Large white head and sparse lacing. Aroma of toasty malts paired with some floral notes. Clean, bread-like taste. Sweetness is modest, while the hops stay mostly in the background until they show up in the aftertaste. Finishes dry, still with that touch of sweetness.

Poured into a stein from a bottle.
Frothy head receded to a white lacing. Amber, copper in color. Rich bready flavor. Some alcoholic warmth. Chocolate, nutty, caramel aroma. Overall, drinkable. It lacked although. The flavor left wanting. I was hoping for more as the beer warmed, hoping for more individuation of flavors.
