Originally brewed as our second anniversary beer in 2013, (re-released to celebrate our 12th anniversary in 2023). Colossal TWO is brewed upon the base of our flagship Porter, with the addition of smoked malt and a bit more strength. Pouring a dark brown appearance with tan foam atop, the smoked aroma and flavor of this potent imperial porter is intended to transport you directly around a campfire with good company.

Pours very dark brown with a dense, but thin, tan head. good enough retention, rings of lace
Smoke, char, and chocolate aromas
Smoky and a chocolaty. A bit of dark caramel sweetness and some earthiness.
Medium heavy bodied and appropriately lower carbonation
I dig it, but splitting one is enough. Probably hold onto the rest for the winter.

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing nearly opaque in the glass with a thin, light khaki head that dissipates to patches with light lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt, peaty smoke, mild cocoa; smoky. Flavor is dark toasted malt, peaty smokehouse, coffee and a touch of cocoa; lightly tart in the finish with a lingering smokehouse character. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. Some smoked beer is mostly reminiscent of campfire, but the ones I like the best have an almost umami like aroma/flavor of a smokehouse with some meaty notes. This one is the latter and it's quite winning. The base porter is of moderate body depth, but supports the smoke well. Smokiness is a clear character, but does not dominate the taste and still leaves a long lingering smokey aftertaste. Nicely done. Glad I got to catch this anniversary rebrewing.

Dark brown body, opaque in the glass; thick, semi-creamy tan head, long lasting; foam fingers grace the inside of the glass. Roasted malt scents greet the nose; toffee, barely perceptible smokiness. Rich sweetness on the palate; roasted grain and chocolate; fine, low-key smokiness; subtle phenols; smoke and grain char bitterness. Medium-heavy body; smooth and silky; lightly creamy texture.

This is a fine tasting smoked imperial porter. The smokiness isn't overbearing, the ABV pretty well-hidden, and the base beer rich and delicious.

Dark, smokey, delightful. Pour has a dense darker tan foam head over a dark, dark brown body. Scent lives up to the name with a smoke being the dominant smell followed by smoked meats. Taste is similar, evoking a campfire with a bit of bitterness starting to creep in, along with a bit of the imperial nature peeking through. Feel is medium bodied but carbonated and smooth giving a more robust feel. Overall a strong smoked porter.

A pretty standard dark pour with an above average collar for a 9% beer, though there's no more that a fleeting sheet of bubbles on the glass after each sip. The nose was initially more of an umami-leaning dark roast coffee porter. However, each subsequent sip gets more smoky, more campfire, and a little more meaty (salami). It doesn't lose its porter aromas, but they fade more into the background as I focus on the less common aromas.

Taste rolls the evolution back to a roasty bitter export stout/porter with coffee vibes. The smoke plays in as a fire pit smoke wafting over to where I am enjoying a dark beer. Just like the aroma, though, the smoke starts intruding after just a few sips. It comes a bit more like being directly near the charred wood than experiencing campfire smoke from a short distance. There is a brief impression of some malt sugars right off, and a bit of prune that I think is the high note of the smoked malt combining with the roasted malt as ancillary notes, but a roasty, charred smoky offering is the bulk of the experience.

Medium heft but with a bold and fulfilling feel, this beer sets itself up for another pour, though that would likely do it for the session.

L: Pours a dark umber brown, very rich and opaque. Forms a light khaki head which dissipates at a moderate pace. Good lacing on glass and leaves a cloudy layer of khaki retention. Held to the light, this brew has a crunchy fudge look.

S: Smoky and packs some heat. Roasted malts and bacon breakfast. Smoked meats. A hint of burnt sugar and char. Unique aroma unlike many porters I've seen.

T: Smoky and earthy. Smoked meat flavor - gamey. Roasted malts and hints of lightly-roasted coffee. Slightest hints of chocolate. Bitter, charred finish.

F: Medium bodied with some moderate carbonation that lends a bite. Not lingering.

O: Strong smoked porter. The smell and taste are quite impressive, but the body leaves something to be desired. Worth it to try, but just buy one. This could get old fast in a 4- or 6-pack.

12oz bottle, wine glass, no freshness date.

Very dark, nearly black with hardly a highlight. The head is small and wispy.

Smells strongly of bacon and olive tapenade. A hersheys sweetness is woven through the savory making them both more inviting. A little warming brings out a slight vinousness, but also makes everything more cohesive. Make no mistake, this is a thoroughly smokey beer.

The flavor is sweet and meaty. Sweet smoked minced meat, Hersheys syrup, and a very light toast. The alcohol is exceptionally well hidden, there’s nary a hint of it in aroma or flavor.

The body, on the other hand, is a bit light for a big beer, but is still creamy. Light to medium body and carbonation.

This is another great one from Port City. Thanks for bringing us back a smoked beer.

Nice tan brown head that is foamy. Beer is opaque and black. Nice texture. Smell and taste are fairly smoky with a nice Roasty malt note. Light sweet caramel note underneath it. Light chocolate.

Body is good. Medium but on the heavier side. A bit thin but not watery and make drinkable. Biting carbonation is good and gives it a nice texture that works well with the body.

Overall, a very good beer worth getting and very drinkable. Great for a cold day.
