Type: 12-oz. bottle
Glass: Figueroa Mountain pint glass
From: Barons Market in Alpine, Calif.
Price: $12.99 for a 6-pack
Purchased: Dec. 17, 2015
Consumed: Dec. 17, 2015
Misc.: N/A

Poured a pale, clear color, reminding me of urine, with less than a finger of gray (I think), fizzy head, which thinned out immediately. An average amount of bubbles coming up from the bottom of the glass. No lacing on the sides of the glass. No retention on the top all the way down. (Sight - 3.00)

Smelled ginger, vanilla, cane sugar, lime, lemon, pine and Citra zest. (Smell - 4.25)

Tasted similar to the smell and pretty much as I expected, like a boozy Ginger Ale. Specifically got Ginger, cane sugar, lime, lemon zest, caramel, Irish Spring soap, pine and artificial vanilla. (Taste - 4.25)

Light body. Sticky texture. Average carbonation. Sugary, slightly boozy finish. (Feel - 4.00)

This was probably not quite as good as I hoped, but still good. Not as close to Ginger Ale as NYFRB is to root beer. (Overall - 4.25)

Tap room experience. Tiffany was awsome but the beer was not so much. They just opened the tap room to the public. Decided to try a 4 beer flight. ginger ale was one of the "beers". To say I was dissapointed would be an under statement. Color did resemble a ginger ale, but to my taste and smell, that's where the similarities ended. Very little carbonation and WAY TOO SWEET! This ale? may strike the pallet of some "strange brew" common sewers but I couldn't finish it and I can assure you that you won't find me dumping GOOD alcohol! Such a dissapointment, seein how this brewery is only a few miles from my home.

Served in a pint glass.

Gotta say, I love the root beer, all versions of it. So I gotta try the ginger beer, yeah? It pours a clear straw topped by a half-finger of short-lived lightly off-white foam. The nose is just straight up ginger ale, in the style of Seagram's over Canada Dry. The taste generally brings in more of the same, though the ginger promises made by the smell aren't fully kept, as the ginger's spiciness is depleted, sinking instead into a bit of green Jell-O sort of thing. I've heard plenty say that it's incredibly sweet, but I just didn't get that impression. Sure it's sugary, to a point, and maybe my tongue is just incredibly desensitized to sweetness, but I've had so many beers sweeter than this that barely have that aspect of their personalities even mentioned. I chalk it up to bias of some sort, frankly. The body is a light medium, with a mildly fizzy carbonation (it really does seem like a ginger ale) and a slick feel. Overall, this beer achieves its stated goal of representing a ginger ale, but the ginger lacks a real bite to it, leaving me wanting more elsewhere, honestly. It's worth a go for fans of ginger ales, but not necessarily for fans of ginger beers or ginger in general.

Diabetes in a bottle! This is beyond sweet. However, like NYFR, it tastes just like what it markets itself as... Ginger ale. Very carbonated, I don't think I could drink more than one.

Bottle from Winco. Haters, stop comparing this to a beer, and rate it as if it was a ginger ale soda. That's what it looks like, that's what it smells like, and that's what it tastes like, and probably the intent of the product to begin with. A bit of a sweet lingering finish, but all else right on target.

Take note, just like I did for NYFRB, I'll be reviewing this as a hard soda. For starters, there's NO head to this whatsoever. But the smell is intriguing, even for ginger ale. I get plenty of ginger and vanilla, yet there's a distinct note of cranberry lurking around. The taste, though...yikes, talk about sugar overload. Its initial flavor has a pleasing ginger quality - afterwards it's like taking a scoop of table sugar and putting in my mouth. The root beer could (just barely) get away with it, this can't. Also, it feels syrupy and under-carbonated for a soda. A mild curio, but when I can feel the teeth rotting and the heartburn flaring as I consume this, the nicer notes just don't matter.

2.24/5: I'll stick with Canada Dry & vodka, thanks

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass.

Appearance: Light golden color, no head, and a lot of carbonation.

Smell: Strong ginger smell.

Mouthfeel/Taste: Smooth light bodied. Taste of strong ginger is about all. Maybe a hint of lime.

Overall: Not bad, but not what I expected. Tasted more like ginger beer than ginger ale, not a sweet as I would have expected.

I liked it much more than I expected to. Lots of ginger, lots of zing. Just enough carbonation to be interesting. Refreshing and easy drinking. Best ice cold.

Appearance - Pours clear and golden yellow with some white suds that dissipate nearly as fast as it pours out, leaving a flat barren surface within seconds.

Smell - Prominent ginger and sugar sweetness with lesser 'Sprite' like lemon character.

Taste - Follows the nose. Ginger with lemon-lime soda characteristics. Only a faint ginger spice in the finish.

Mouthfeel - Light-to-medium in body with moderate, fizzy carbonation. Drinks easy enough with a crisp finish.

Overall - Not terrible to drink, but too sweet and sugary for my liking. It's simply too much like drinking a soda. Glad I tried it, but I'll pass on buying it again.

This beer tastes like Ginger Ale with a slight twang. The scent and taste were very close to ginger ale. The mouthfeel was lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall this is a easy drinking ale....probably best in summer. Certainly worth a try.
