A - Black with small head.

S - Smells sweet and smokey.

T - This one tastes great. It has a very sweet tangy taste, much like a soda or other carbonated soft drink.

M - Carbonated but light, this one goes down pretty easy.

D - With the wonderful light sweet tight, this ones so crisp and easy to drink. Comnibed with the 4.6 abv this could be a session beer. Really love that crisp tangy sweet taste.

Sweet, Dark, Clean, Grainy

Tastes somewhere between a German Schwarzbier and a Milk Stout though they state it is inspired by old recipes of Indian beer. The company also boasts about being tapped twice as the best “Dark Lager” in the world. Vague enough? So really it just comes down to if the beer is good or not as we believe the brewers intention has always been to brew something unique while being able to give back. Yes, this is a charity beer for the Amazon Forest. Every beer geek should give this one a whirl.

A fantastic black beer, with a lot of cherry and oak flavors, a little smokiness. Very drinkable while still flavorful, and a personal favorite of mine.

Looking for a strange, surprising brew? Another taste of exotic, a glimpse into the twilight of the jungle, perhaps? What really shines in Xingu is the water. The flavor cannot be compared to other beers one might taste because the water has made it unique. One can distinguish many minerals, silty qualities, mossy, and just plain wet. Like you're sitting in a river and licking the rocks. If you see this beer just try it.

Barely opaque mahogany that becomes barely translucent dark crimson when backlit with brilliant, direct sunlight. The head is golden light brown, like one would see on a cola, and is intensely foamy and frothy. Thick, bubbly lace sticks like glue.

The aroma is odd. Even though Xingu Black Beer is a Euro dark lager, I didn't expect it to smell like a slightly darker version of a Euro pale lager, but it does. For some reason, I expected the aroma to be a lighter, milder version of a good porter or stout. Wrong. It's stale, musty and vegetal, with other off-aromas that I can't quite place.

Unfortunately, the off-aromas translate into off-flavors. Even so, the beer is marginally less offensive on the palate, probably because of the presence of other, more acceptable flavors. There's plenty of sweet roastedness, but as with some poor quality beer, it tastes more like artificial flavorings were added than it does like roasted barley.

I don't taste chocolate, coffee or any other flavors brought out in the normal course of 'dark' beer brewing. Although the website doesn't mention it, it tastes like kola nuts have been used. They're grown in Brazil, aren't they? In fact, now that I think about it, the beer tastes like a severly undercarbonated knock-off brand of cola. The mouthfeel is light-medium. Thanks to a lack of bubbles, it's also unenergetic and uninteresting.

Xingu Black Beer isn't good. It tastes too much like a saccharine sweet, dark beer extract added, dark lager pretender. Part of the problem might be the partial lack of carbonation. I opened another bottle last week (from a different source, obtained months apart) that was totally flat and undrinkable. Even properly bubbled, though, I doubt that I'd be impressed.

L: Pours pitch black or deep dark brown under a ½” finely bubbled light tan head. S: Aromas are not roasty, more like dark brown bread. T: Attacks with malt dark bread flavors, grain driven fruit flavors and a light touch of anise and cola. There is a trace of tartness on the finish. No harsh roast or burnt flavors and nothing big or assertive. F: Clean and smooth with a very creamy medium light body and very fine and soft carbonation. O: This is a very subdued beer that is easy to drink.

Not exact to style but amazing nonetheless. Has a cola aroma and effervescence, lightly malty, almost bordering on a sweet stout but slightly citrusy, crisp, slippery mouthfeel, satisfying and refreshing.

This is hands down the best Schwarzbier/Black Lager I've had, with it's citrus-like twist and one of my go-to session beers. Highly underrated.

Pours out a dark reddish black that some light can penetrate. Slight head of tan foam.
A grape wine smell but with yeast and a hint of cocoa and caramel.
Taste is a little dirty and watery for such a dark concoction. I get a hint of of peppery caramel but the sugar takes over. No alcohol present.
Mouthfeel is clean but too clean. There is nothing left to cover the palate.
If I lived in Brazil I would prolly drink this, if it were all I could find.

Look: inviting, deep darkness. Not entirely black but close. Opaque and not allowing much light in.

Nose: nice aroma. Carmelized malts and hops.

Taste: Carmel malts and light coffee notes without going bitter

Mouthfeel: pleasing mouthfeel that is creamy without feeling too heavy or grainy.

Drink: Enyirely drinkable; on the order of a Kostringer black lager but with southern hemisphere influences instead of the eastern European traditional notes.

Brown twist top 335ml bottle, poured into a 'Palm' tulip shaped glass.

Very dark colouring, a true black lager, evennheld up to a strong light the blackness didn't waiver. No head sadly, just a thin tan collar.

There was a strong coffee aroma at first, but once the beer had been poured it soon dispersed and was replaced with a more malted barley wiff.

The coffee from the first aroma hints dominate the flavour. It isn't all coffee, just a feeling the taste is there. Otherwise it is a normal black beer, with all the normal lagerish attributes.

Smooth, almost creamy but still true to the blacklager trait of being thin towards the end of the mouthfeel.

My daughter found this somewhere, glad she did, a pleasant suprise from Brazil.

Appearance: Dark, Black- Hence the name black beer. Very little head.

Smell: sweet, I'm not really sure how to describe it.

Taste: Wonderful! It does not taste how you think based on color. It is sweet and flavorful but light.

Mouthfeel: Light and smooth, there is little carbonation so it feels watery smooth in your mouth.

Drinkability: You can sit down and drink the whole 6 pack no problem. This would be a great beer for anytime if you can find it or afford it.

Serving type: bottle then poured into a Guinness style glass.

Xingu Black Beer is a dark brown beer that is very close to black in color. It has a nose that is sweet and malty with a touch of molasses and a little bit of plum. A good pour produces a creamy head of foam that looks great at first, but settles down quickly.

Xingu Black Beer offers a sweet taste at first, with flavors that alternate between dark fruits, vanilla, light roasted malt, and caramel. There are some hints of leafy/herbal hops, but the brief prelude into the world of bitterness is quickly switched back to the flavor of sweet, dark malt. The beer has an unusual mouthfeel that is very much like a glass of cola.

Xingu Black Beer is a schwarzbier style brew with a sweet flavor profile and likeable characteristics. It has some interesting features, starting with the appearance. It looks a little intimidating with its dark color, but the first sip proves this beer has more bark than bite. It is also interesting in its mouthfeel, which reminds me of a glass of pepsi.

Xingu Black Beer is a light to medium bodied beer, but it does have some interesting flavor notes that make it a beer worth trying. It is about as smooth and drinkable as a beer could possibly be and it rates as a good choice if you prefer your beer dark and sweet.

Poured from a bottle into a pilsner glass, beer is what you might expect from a "black" beer, very dark in color although not quite black and a root beer colored head. The nose is very underwhelming; some faint malty/grainy arise, maybe a bit of skunk. There doesn't appear to be any freshness date so I can't tell how old this beer is but based on the fact that it came from Brazil all the way up to me in Decatur IL, I'm guessing it wasn't brewed last week. The taste is more of the same with the sweet and grainy malt coming out with a more definite skunkiness. The only clue that this beer isn't a pale euro lager is the finish is a bit dryer. Light in body and carbonation. Decent to try, nothing impressive but in fairness I'm sure this would taste much better if ordered in Brazil.

More brown beer. Tan head, minimal lacing, but high carbonation. Aroma was faint, maybe coffee.

Taste, a little zest for the color, similar to Negra Modelo, this is a bit more challenging. Not a lot to back it up after the appearance, thought this was nonetheless a bigger beer.

Kinda pricey, nothing in the mouthfeel to write home about. I really don't know what makes this beer differentiate from a brown ale. Its a little bit, barely, hoppier, which I guess will put it in the schwarzbier category, but the yeast doesn't seem to be different.
