12 oz. bottle poured into pint glass

L: amber-brown and clear out of the glass pushing up thick, 1 1/4-inch head of tan foam, creamy looking foam that lingers a bit; stacked in the glass the beer is definitely black, though up to the light it's a deep dark ruby red/purple and still clear; head doesn't stick, beer don't lace but keeps a thick collar and nearly full skin for awhile, then the skin disappears and you get a tight ring of tan foam

S: dusty dark and sweet fruit, dates ... sugar-coated dates; peach kolache; plum cake ... as it warms the darker fruit notes supersede the peach

T: fruity sweet ... peach, apricot, loads of sweet light malt flavor — ice cold you'd think it was an English pale; as it warms, some darker date/plum flavors enter

F: simple, light, no frills ... enough carbonation to fill it out; made for whatever ... sip it, chug it, swish it around, drink it out of the bottle ... it all works

O: me and my sweet tooth love it and love it so; the malt flavors are sweet and fruity and linger perfectly; schwarz lovers will wonder where the good roasted/charred/burnt flavors are, and I could see them sending this back to the brewer asking for a bit more "black" in this beer ... and they'd be right, for there's very little dark-malt flavor and nothing to speak of of wood or roast or char ... it's arguably a dark-colored light-malt bomb, and when I'm in the mood for that, I won't hesitate to grab some of this; as a schwarzbier? hard to score but we'll do what we can ...

Served from 12 oz bottle into pint glass.
Pours a 1" tan head that falls slowly with mild lacing. Color is black with a reddish tint. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee and toffee along with earthy hops. Medium mouthfeel with a mostly dry finish. Flavors of dark roasted malt, hints of coffee, chocolate, toffee. A lingering hop bitterness in the finish. Overall quite a pleasant and easy drinking brew.

I tried Xingu Black in Rio. It poured a nearly opaque black with white head that did not leave much lace. The scent was slightly sweet with corn like hint. The taste was sweet and maize. Fairly easy to drink. The Mouthfeel was lighter in body with smooth carbonation. Overall it's ok.

Bottle (no apparent date):
Pours like water, but is a deep brown nearing black, with an apparent clarity. Head is thin, and I expected it to run from the top of the glass, but it stood in there and fought.

Nose is cola, light licorice and that classic smell of a dark beer where quality (or perhaps quantity of) specialty malts are not necessary. Light sour tang I am also used to from a lighter brew.

Old licorice (no bite), root beer to cola flavors. That tang is in there as well, in the back. Honestly, not a bad tasting beer, but a very loose interpretation of a Schwarzbier.

A very watery feel, nothing seems to grab hold of the palate for long. A light bite and not flat, but carbonation could use a light boost.

Actually not a bad tasting beer if you just wanted a soda-flavored, lightly carbonated malt beverage. I could drink this again, but not if I actually wanted a nice Schwarzbier.
