Cranberries shine through here--even moreso than their Three Cranes beer. There is some toasted malt, a touch of caramel, but the dryness and slight bitterness from the cranberry dominate. I got a growler of this, and even though I find both Vinland 1 and Vinland 2 to be better, this is still a way above average and interesting beer.

Poured from the bottle into a tulip glass. Excellent solid pop off the cork, very little give needed and a good pow and smoke. Vintage 2014.

Deep chestnut and mahogany brown body color. Opaque and pretty solid. Creamy and big frothy head, a mixture of bubble bath and cream appearance, with a very light tan color. Easily rocks out at three fingers and settles with one easy simple finger. Very solid nice looking brew.

Aroma is quite different on this guy. Real nice nutty sensing milk chocolate and mixtures of sage herbal tones and a soft mineral sense. Malt forward, with just a touch of funk. Real nice aroma but doesn't get into very discernable or unique sensing esters, bouquet is a little subtle. Still solid aroma.

Palate provides a much more interesting experience. Mineral and dry funk with just a touch of warmth. Creamy and velvety tasting chocolate, even perhaps an almost Belgian like sweetness that comes through the mid palate. Tingly finish. Light almost hinting boozy warmth of brandy like qualities.

While the yeast is taken from a strain of wild raspberries, fruit character on this is not really present to me at least. Perhaps aged out, but certainly a delicious beer with a great malt and yeast flavor still remains.

A: The beer is clear but ver dark reddish amber in color and has no visible carbonation. It poured with a quarter finger high white head that died down but consistently left a short head covering the surface.
S: Moderate to strong aromas of earthy yeast are present in the nose.
T: The taste is similar to the smell and has lots of flavors of earthy yeast.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer looks and tastes more like a dark saison compared to a dubbel. It's OK as a saison, but very yeasty.

On-tap 12/1/2014 at British Beer Company in Walpole, MA, served in a US tumbler pint glass.

A: The beer is a medium brown color, with a short dense off-white head that fades slowly and leaves a very thick lace on the glass.

S: The aroma is faint but contains tart fruit, Belgian yeast, caramelized malts and some spice.

T: The taste starts out bready with a hearty malt character and wild Belgian yeast up front. Then some sweet flavors of dark fruit and caramel come in and are quickly followed by some tartness. The hops presence is very mild and provides some balance. The after-taste is slightly bready and slightly tart.

M: Crisp and smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is dry and slightly sticky.

O: A little tasty, goes down easily, slightly filling, decent kick, good representation of style, this is a solid beer to drink for a while.

Pretty neat series, native yeast experiment, this one from Hill Farmstead area.

Pours a decent fizzy slight creamy 1.5 finger head that fades at a med pace, lots of popping bubbles, mild fluffy lacing, a dark but clear mahogany ruby colored beer.

Nose brings some typical saison aromas, floral yeast additions, floral spices quite mild, some esters and a very light phenolic note, a bit grassy and a faint lemony note, with a dark brown malt, caramel porter like, an almost caramelized banana kinda note too, mild dark fruits, touch of a fig and some molasses.

Taste brings some earthiness, the yeast is really interesting, a farmhouse saison like yeast with other components to it, some floral spices mix with lemon zest and grassy notes, but that gets mostly overpowered by the caramel malts, molasses, sweet brown malts that are actually dry, some earthy root sarsaparilla like notes, and earthy fermented molasses. Some bitter spicy grassy and a bit earthy hops cut through the middle, as well as the quickly rising phenols. A smooth malt rounds it off a bit, as well as faint esters. Finish is quite dry, a bit more of that spicy earthy hop coming through and lingering, a little phenolic note, and some mild saison grassy lemony spices.

Mouth is med bod, a little soft but dry, plenty of small bubble carbonation.

Overall pretty interesting, but not a great beer nevertheless. The flavors are nice but kinda clash a bit, not quite what I expected. The hops are the biggest clash I think, as I like the phenols, the mild saison spices and lemony flavors, as well as the darker malts although those do seem a bit out of place as well.
