One of the last nights this place was open...visited over Thanksgiving Weekend while visiting family and friends. $5 cover to enter, worth it after hearing the live band. Very cool atmosphere, loved all the paintings of musical artists. Beer was proper, not many to choose from...maybe cause they were closing in a few days? The crowd was very low key, and unpretentious, which is not the easiest to find in a bigger "beer-snob" city like Minn-St Paul. Overall, would have loved to see this place stay open as I would have re-visited any time I was in town....my type of place!

Great beer, but the staff is not very friendly.

I love Harriet, so it pains me to write a somewhat tepid review. They opened one of the first taprooms in Minnesota, and batch 1 of West Side was one of my favorite beers ever.
But a recent visit prompted me to write this.
First the good: This place has such a strong neighborhood vibe. There is live music and a food truck virtually every day, a house cat, and plenty of original artwork on the walls. When there isn't a musical act, the ambient music comes from the house vinyl collection or a DJ. Musical genres are all over the map, which is a welcome relief from some local breweries that only play the various shades of metal.
The beer is mostly inspired by Belgian and German styles, but they also offer a Sahti and an American IPA on tap. I'll refrain from reviewing them here, since each is different and can be reviewed separately. Selection is good for a brewery of this size.
Now for the bad. First of all, the place is a little dirty-looking, and there is a single unisex bathroom that I have not found especially well-kept. Additionally, the website is not kept up to date. Before my last visit, I was pleasantly surprised to see their Belgian-style stout listed as "on-tap" on their website, but upon arriving, was told that it had not been on tap for over a month. That's inexcusable.
Ultimately, it's those kinds of details that really hurt my ratings for this place. If they fix them, I'll revise.

This is another brewery on my bike route. There is a big garage at the back of the brewery where you can either fill a growler or stand around and drink with 50 or so of your closest friends. In decent weather things spill out into the parking lot and there is usually a food truck or two around. Their beer somehow tastes better in the brewery than anywhere else. If you are touring Minneapolis's craft breweries this is a must.

When I lived in Minneapolis, Harriet was my go to spot. It's an unassuming warehouse space on the city's south side, and the owner/head brewer is usually on had whipping up the next batch of beer. Their mainstay brews are tasty and they seem to lean towards the fruity side of Belgians. Harriet is also a big supporter of the local and regional music scene, and they usually have a band or DJ on hand to provide a soundtrack to fit the festive mood.

Comfortable and consistently solid beers. Regular with music and most often it is live. Food trucks regularly in the parking lot. Service is low not because it is bad, more there just isn't that much going on. Not a wide range of styles but all beers are solid.

Live band with four guitars, three brews left on tap when I arrived, but one of them was a very nice Belgian Strong Pale Ale. Great atmosphere, like a very cool party in a very cool brewery. Wait a minute, It IS a very cool party in a very cool brewery. When you order your brew, if you look to the left, there are the brew kettles, right out in the open.

Harriet has a fantastic assortment of beers. You should be able to find something on tap that will appeal to the beer grognard as well as more casual beer drinkers, although maybe not folk who swear by cereal beers. I was there on a Wednesday and not only had two great pints (Saisson Nourrice and Woluptuweiss) but got to hear great music. I could've had food as well, courtesy of the food truck that they'd invited in, but I'd already had a Juicy Lucy (a burger with cheese in the middle) across town.
I rate their atmosphere a notch up because of the live music at the back of the brewery. They've set space aside for a stage, lights and actual sound gear, and like the food, they draw an assortment of bands from the area. You can probably guess the general leaning of music types from the psychedelic tinge of their logo. They also have DJs--if you stop by, have a look at the assortment of LPs they have on hand. There aren't too many music genres that aren't represented in their collection.
Overall, top marks. A very friendly place, with ancient couches and stuffed animal heads and funky paintings and murals and more. Any member of this site is bound to like this place.

Love this tap room! It was one of the first in the cities, and they did it right. In the summers they have great outdoor space and excellent live music almost every night. This place is a lot of fun, and they make some pretty good beers, too. Their Hefeweizen is one of my favorites, and they do a few Belgian styles that are really good, too. This place is always a blast to hang out at on summer nights (and can be cozy on winter weeknights as well). They did it all the right way here. The only minor negative is that the place is small when the patio is closed off in the winter, so it can get tight on busy weekends.
