2019 BBA version courtesy of NolaHopHead.
L: very dark brown with tan creamy minimal-moderate head. Little lacing.
S: caramel, prunes, Oak.
T: Caramel, vanilla, charred malt, oak, apple, slight bourbon-esque burn.
F: medium, little burny.
Overall: pretty good. Not super “hot” or boozy. Probably better without the bourbon barrel though. I feel like it only thinned the body and flavor in this case.

Look: very dark ruby brown. Big tan head on the pour. Messy clingy lacing.
Smell: dark fruit, toffee, vanilla, hints of bourbon.
Taste: like the nose. Really mellow, gentle giant.

On-draught @ Cooter Brown's, New Orleans, LA.

$11/10oz.

Thin and shallow, actually, bringing the leathery notes and subtle coconut you want in a bourbon barrel aged barleywine but none of the caramel/toffee chewy malt flavours or the vanillin and rich white oak from the barrel.

Mundane.

Had at Grand Reserve Day at the brewery. A truly amazing beer. Huge fig and barrel characteristics. If this is anything like the regular version, it will only get better with time. Can't wait to try it again at the next GRD.

After sampling the 2015 version of the BBGR at Grand Reserve Day, I had high hopes for the version sitting in barrels for a year (2014). Looks was a nice, amber/purple, smelled less like a bourbon barrell and the taste of the bourbon was more faint than I would have liked. Mouthfeel was fine but I did have higher hopes for the 2014 iteration.

If you enjoy the Parish Grand Reserve then you will certainly enjoy the Barrel Aged Grand Reserve, has a nice kick of bourbon. Nice beer and certainly one of the better Parish beers.
