Brewed by:
Parish Brewing Company
Louisiana, United States

Style: Saison / Farmhouse Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.50%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
Parish Farmhouse IPA is the best of both old and new world styles: A bold blend of Franco-Belgian yeast and American hops. Brewed with Belgian pilsener and rye, the delicate malt profile is refined yet rustic. Pour gently as this beer is intentionally effervescent, made possible with bottle-refermentation in our cellar. Santé!

Poured into a large snifter glass. The beer pours hazy orange copper with a very thick white head that dissipates slowly. The initial pour comes with a lot of head due to the bottle conditioning. There are some visible tiny bubbles in the beer. Some lacing is left behind on the glass as the head recedes. The beer smells of bready and sweet malts, citrus and floral hop notes, and spiciness. The first sip brings some bready and sweet malts and the hop bitterness hits in the back end. The hop flavors are like citrus and quite floral. The hop bitteness is more like bitter orange. The body is medium with strong carbonation. The finish is dry and the carbonation helps tame the aftertaste. The drinkability is very high. This is an excellent beer.

Parish Brewing Company - Farmhouse IPA

Acquired through trade and shared with two friends.

Look - Pours a hazy caramel with an orange hue. Massive bubbly head. Minimal lacing. Heavily carbonated.

Smell - Typical Saison but with a sweet malt and a subtle resiny hop on top.

Taste - Sweet malt in front, then sour yeast in the middle, finally some citrus hops come in after. Sweet and sour, quite unique.

Mouthfeel - Sticky hop resin and sour Belgian-style yeast on the sides. Good drinkability. Slightly alcohol warming. Medium bodied.

Overall - Solid brew, interesting fusion of a Belgian, Saison, and a malty IPA.

750ml bottle split into 16oz Beligan Tulips.

A - Toasted honey body, HUGE off white head mountainous, magnificent lacing. But gotta be patient to let this one settle.

S/T - Orange peel and spicy esters, light citrusy hop character that comes out more on the taste, touch of pine. Bit of bubble gum flavor I missed on the nose as well.

M - Super carbed, and light as a feather. Dangerously drinkable.

O - One of the better Belgian IPAs I've been fortunate enough to try.

750ml Bottle bottled on 11/11/14 poured into a tulip glass.

Appearance: Pours a cloudy golden color with 2 fingers of white head

Smell: Fruity esters and grapefuit-like hop aromas

Taste: Hop bitterness up front with resin and fruity hop flavors along with yeast in the middle leading to a dry finish of hops, yeast, and fruity esters all balancing

Mouthfeel: Crisp and medium

Overall: A very nice hop forward Saison. I believe most people would consider this more of a Belgian IPA. Even with all of the powerful flavors present, they balance out pretty well.

Aroma: Phenolic with some grainy sweet malt aroma and some rye. Floral hops come through at first with some herbal character.

Appearance: Deep golden and hazy. Big rocky head that fades and displays lacing. Creamy and vivacious appearance.

Flavor: Malt is of clean grainy sweet pilsner and spicy rye. Good balance of phenolic, firm bitterness and malts. Floral and fruity hops are forward and some orange peelish hop character in finish. Some herbal character.

Mouth feel: Medium to medium full body and quite lively with it's carbonation. Bitterness lingers pleasantly dry.

Overall Impression: Big on hop and big on carbonation with quite a bit of spice. Very creative line drawn through a number of traditional styles. Quite well done and appropriate given where Parish Brewing is located. I love it. The big bombers from Parish are delivering every time they're released.
